Thomas Partey to depart Arsenal

Arsenal have been unable to reach an agreement with Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, and the former Atletico Madrid player could now surprise many and instead of move to Barcelona as widely expected, has now been given the option to move to London rivals Chelsea on a free transfer. Partey arguably had his best campaign for the Gunners last season, and many fans will be disappointed to lose the defensive midfielder.

However, with Arsenal set to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Partey had not been guaranteed a starting berth in the Gunners’ side and Mikel Arteta only offered the Ghanaian a one year deal, but matched the player’s previous salary.

Chelsea are ready to double Partey’s salary on a three-year contract, and hope the player will decide to compete with the likes of Romeo Lavia and Enzo at the heart of the club’s midfield for the 2025-26 season. Chelsea are also impressed with Partey’s recent versatility, as the player had occasionally played at right-back last campaign.

Barcelona have also made an offer to Partey. The player is currently training alone building up fitness before making a decision as to where his next move will be, but it is understood the player has said good bye to the players and coaching staff at Arsenal as his contract ends on July 1st 2025.
