Nintendo Makes 2024 Hit Free For Millions

The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 might be cheaper than Xbox and PlayStation’s current offerings, but the true cost of owning one can stack up quickly. While the hardware itself is comparatively affordable — key word competitively — the lack of frequent discounts on Nintendo’s first-party titles makes building a library of great games an expensive prospect.

This week, however, those with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription can enjoy a surprisingly attractive treat. Even though Nintendo Switch Online’s library focuses on classic games, a 2024 title with glowing reviews will be available to play in full for a limited time.

Today, Nintendo officially announced Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown as the latest Game Trial for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online members can play the game in full for free during the limited download period, or purchase the game to keep at a 70% off discount.

The Game Trial availability for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will run from 10 AM PT on September 24 to 11:59 AM PT on September 30, after which access to the game will be lost. The 70% sale, however, is sticking around for a bit longer, disappearing at 11:59 PM PT on October 7.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an unusual Prince of Persia title, embracing a 2.5D perspective and adopting a modern Metroidvania format. Fortunately, it stuck the landing, earning plenty of critical acclaim and an 8/10 in Screen Rant‘s review of the game, which highlights its fun combat system as the main highlight.

With a runtime of around 20 hours, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown can reasonably be completed within the trial period, although you’ll have to set aside a fair bit of gaming time this week. If you’ve been itching for a good action experience, though, this could be the perfect way to make some use of a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. It might also be a nice way to pre-game Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a new Metroidvania dropping in October with a similar sense of style.

Nintendo Switch Online promotions can be erratic, so it’s always worth keeping an eye out for any exciting events like this one. For those who don’t have access to the subscription or a Nintendo Switch system, the 70% off sale is also available on Steam, and the game is included for free with the premium Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PlayStation Plus Extra subscriptions.
