The stars of Outlander: Blood of My Blood have shared their ideas about how Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe could return as Jamie and Claire Fraser if the possibility of a crossover ever comes along.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a historical romance drama and serves as a prequel to Outlander. It follows the families of the flagship show’s two main characters, Jamie and Claire. The original Outlander, which ran from 2014 to 2026, was based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel series of the same name.

Heughan and Balfe have previously stated that they would be open to returning if there were a worthwhile storyline for their characters, rather than just making a cameo for the sake of it. In an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, Blood of My Blood stars Jamie Roy, Harriet Slater, Hermione Corfield, and Jeremy Irvine offered their insights regarding how Jamie and Claire make a meaningful comeback and interact with their characters.

Roy, who plays Jamie’s father, Brian Fraser, said that it would be interesting if Jamie somehow encounters his mom and dad. He explained that an emotional moment between an adult Jamie and his parents could be very vulnerable given Jamie’s history with his mother, Ellen (Slater).

Oh man. What would they do? That would be crazy. I’d love to see the interaction of Jamie meeting both his parents while alive. I think it’d be so cool because he never really knew his mom. Ellen died in childbirth, so it would be great to see a Star Wars-style scene of their Force Ghosts meeting Jamie, just two parents looking down on him as he’s grown up or something. I don’t know, that’d be quite lovely.

Like Roy, Slater is also interested in exploring the relationship between Ellen and her son. She said she would like her character to have the chance to see and get to know the person Jamie eventually becomes, something she was unable to experience herself when he was a child.

Slater further elaborated, saying that she thinks Ellen would be proud of Jamie, including his decision to build a life with Claire. Additionally, the actor said that she believes Ellen would be able to see similarities between herself and Claire and believes the two characters would get along if they ever met each other.

Yeah, that’d be beautiful. It would be so nice, I think, for Ellen to meet Jamie growing up. Because, like you said, she never got the privilege of doing that. I think she’d be pretty proud of him, and of his choice in Claire. I think she’d probably see a lot of herself in Claire, actually. I think they’d really get on.

Corfield and Irvine, who play Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s parents, are also curious about how a meeting involving the different generations might work. Corfield suggests the characters briefly crossing paths without fully realizing the significance of the encounter, allowing both Outlander stories to overlap without necessarily requiring a huge sequence.

Irvine pointed out how a crossover between the two Outlander shows could become complicated. The actor explained how Claire would not necessarily know what her parents looked like. At this point, no one knows how an encounter could happen, leaving plenty of room for new ideas to arise.

Corfield offered another potential connection between the two series by suggesting that Claire’s parents could potentially hold Jamie and Claire’s son, Jamie, as a baby. However, she also acknowledged that what is possible would depend on how long the characters in Blood of My Blood live.

Corfield: That would be so fun. I think some kind of inception thing, where they walk past us, or there’s some kind of meeting, but they just miss each other.

Irvine: I suppose Claire wouldn’t really know what we look like. Maybe she’s got photos, I don’t know.

Corfield: We need some kind of interaction, but it depends on how long we live.

Irvine: I don’t know how it would work, but I’ll let the fans come up with some ideas.

Corfield: Maybe we could hold baby Jamie. That would be cool.
