Metal Gear Solid Replacement Officially Unveils Its Lead Character

It’s been an eventful couple of weeks for Kojima Productions. First we learned that PlayStation had dropped their partnership, while mere moments later, their project Physint was picked up by Microsoft. The once PlayStation exclusive found a new home with Xbox, and it would seem that it’s now all systems go with the spiritual successor to the Metal Gear Solid franchise. A tactical espionage action game on modern hardware . . . where do I sign up?

Not only have we seen Physint shift to a new home on a new platform, but details about the upcoming spy thriller have started to emerge. Thanks to official details shared on Kojima Productions’ own website, we now know who is playing the lead in the upcoming Physint. No, it’s not Kiefer Sutherland or David Hayter, but it is someone equally famous. He’s played everyone from psychotic clowns to undead superheroes and seems like the perfect fit for a whacky Hideo Kojima-led project.

Bill Skarsgård Takes The Lead In Physint

The lead role in the upcoming espionage action game Physint, will be played by none other than Bill Skarsgård. Bill has shown plenty of creative acting range and is probably best known for his roles in blockbuster movies like It, The Crow, John Wick: Chapter 4 and Nosferatu. He’s also well able to keep up with all the tactical action as his role as Boy in Boy Kills World saw him put his combat skills to the test as he battled hordes of enemies in a dystopian future.

Hideo Kojima admits that both he and Bill are long-time fans of each other’s work, and he’s delighted that Bill is taking on the lead role in Physint.

“I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård,” said Hideo Kojima. “We are both long-time fans of each other’s work, and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together. The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”

Physint WIll Redefine Action Espionage

Speaking more at the XBOX Toyko Game Show 2026, Hideo Kojima not only announced that his other project OD-Knock will also be published by Xbox, but that Physint is set to redefine the action espionage genre as it is unbound by existing genres in digital entertainment. An exciting promise, but knowing Kojima’s pedigree, it’s certainly something that he and his team can deliver. He went on to reveal other cast members of Physint, including Don Lee, who shot to fame with the amazing zombie movie Train to Busan, Minami Hamabe of Godzilla Minus One fame and Charlee Fraser, a model turned actress who found fame in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

With a stacked cast, supportive publisher and a creative mind that has introduced the world to some of the greatest games ever made, Physint looks to be shaping up nicely. While we’ve yet to see if Bill’s latest character can stand toe to toe with Solid Snake, it’s a fairly safe bet that Physint (short for Physical Intelligence) will aim to please fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. With no official release date currently for Physint, we may have quite a while to wait for the next genre-defining action espionage title. Here’s hoping Grand Theft Auto VI Online can keep us amused until then!
