As India marked its 79th Independence Day with pride, the cricket fraternity joined millions in celebrating the nation’s spirit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ceremonial hoisting of the tricolour at the Red Fort set the tone, as messages of patriotism poured in from all corners. From living legends like Sachin Tendulkar to modern-day stars like Hardik Pandya, cricketers shared heartfelt wishes on social media, reminding fans of the deep bond between cricket and national pride. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also extended greetings with the rallying cry, “Jai Hind.”

Hearing from cricketing legends on Independence Day evokes powerful emotions for fans. Sachin Tendulkar, the batting maestro who carried the hopes of the nation for decades, posted an image of himself with the Indian flag, captioned simply: “Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!”—a fitting reflection of the pride he has always embodied.

VVS Laxman, celebrated for his epic 376-run stand with Rahul Dravid in 2001, urged citizens to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters by building “a brighter, stronger India that our future generations will be proud of.”

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan, part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy triumphs, echoed the sentiment: “Our freedom was hard-earned; our duty is to keep it alive — in spirit, in action, and in unity.”
