Cristiano Ronaldo scoops Middle East award and says he remains on track to reach 1000 goals

Cristiano Ronaldo vowed to reach the 1000-goal landmark after being named the Middle East Player of the Year at a ceremony in Dubai this evening.

The 40-year-old is 44 goals shy of reaching four figures after netting another brace for Al-Nassr in their 3-0 win over Al-Akhdoud yesterday afternoon.

Ronaldo recently signed a new contract that will keep him at the Saudi Arabian club until 2027 and the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is confident he will continue to score goals providing he stays fit.

He said: “My goal is still to score goals, win more trophies and keep pushing myself to achieve new personal targets. My passion is high and I want to continue. It doesn’t matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe.

“I will reach 1,000 goals for sure, if I stay injury-free.”

Title could be coming Ronaldo’s way

Yesterday’s routine win over Al-Akhdoud was Al-Nassr’s 10th on the trot to start the season and they remain on course to land their first title since 2019.

Ronaldo has scored 12 league goals this season, one fewer than team-mate and fellow Portuguese Joao Felix.
