This article contains major spoilers for Silo season 3’s episode 1.Silo season 3’s episode 1 keeps highlighting how a large supply of vitamin D+ is stored in Silo 18. From a scientific standpoint, there is seemingly nothing suspicious about this. However, the show’s constant emphasis on the vitamin supply and Juliette’s need to consume the tablets suggests something bigger is happening behind the scenes.
In the opening sequence itself, Juliette gulps down two white-colored tablets with a glass full of water. As the episode progresses, there is more and more emphasis on the tablets and their massive supply in Silo 18. Towards the end of the episode, the Apple TV sci-fi show hints at what the vitamin tablets are actually being used for.
While Silo season 3 has only started its story, it is evident that Juliette’s amnesia plot ties directly to the tablets she is being asked to consume. Interestingly, a closer look at Silo season 2’s story also reveals that this is not the first time the mysterious pills have been mentioned. They play a far greater role in the show’s overarching narrative than episode 1 initially lets on.
People Living In The Silo Need Vitamin D Because Of No Natural Sunlight
Since the central silos are primary under the surface of the Earth, they have little access to sunlight. Owing to this, the people living in Silo 18 have to take vitamin D supplements to ensure they do not develop deficiencies. Considering this, there is nothing wrong with the fact that Juliette is being asked to take vitamins.
Even the large supply of vitamin D in Silo 18 was likely introduced to ensure that all citizens maintain good health. Interestingly, though, this story development is not as simple as it seems. The vitamins are actually memory loss drugs that have been around in the world of Silo for a very long time.
What Vitamins Does Juliette Keep Taking In Silo Season 3?
One initially assumes that Juliette’s amnesia has something to do with the trauma she experienced in Silo season 2’s ending moments. However, when Camille visits the “Algorithm” in Silo season 3 episode 1’s ending moments, it asks her to double Juliette’s dose of the memory loss drugs to ensure she remembers nothing about her past.
This is not the first time the Apple TV sci-fi series has dabbled with the idea of memory manipulation.
Silo season 3 simultaneously reveals flashbacks that reveal how, long before the world ended, an air force pilot, Charlotte, encountered a mysterious attack during a bombing mission in Iran. She survived the incident but ended up losing her memory. Like Juliette, she could not even recognize her own family.
Similar to Juliette, it seems likely that she, too, was silenced using memory loss drugs after learning about things she should not have known about. In Silo season 1, George Wilkins’ aunt, Gloria, was also being medicated to keep her memories of past rebellions locked.
While decoding past messages and files from Silo 18, Lukas Kyle, too, had learned that water supplies had been contaminated with memory-suppressing drugs to erase the Silo’s history. The large barrels of “vitamin” in season 3 will likely be used to spike the water supply again. Shattered by the death of his wife, Patrick Kennedy also begged to be “sedated” by the memory-suppressing drugs in season 2.
Considering the drug’s history, it has likely gone through many trials and developments, which explains why it effectively makes Juliette forget almost everything about her past. However, in Silo season 3, it will not be long before someone will find a way to help her.
