Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry’s next TV series has been revealed, confirming details of his latest original project for the small screen. Barry is best known for adapting Ben Dunn’s comic Warrior Nun for Netflix. The series was cancelled following the release of season 2, sparking a fan campaign in an attempt to revive his rendition of the story.
Since then, Barry has gone on to become the showrunner and executive producer for the TV show Bet, a live-action adaptation of the manga Kakegurui. The Netflix original was renewed for season 2 in June 2025. While his adaptations have drawn praise, a new report has revealed Barry’s next TV show will be an entirely original series.
According to Deadline, Barry is now developing an original detective series, titled Time of Death. The series follows a detective who moves from Britain to Vancouver after spending 10 years searching for a serial killer. However, upon learning his adversary may be in the city, he begins taking cases while trying to uncover the whereabouts of the evasive murderer.
Time of Death is part of a scripted production deal between Barry’s company, Reality Distortion Field, and Omnifilm. The partnership is also responsible for developing My Homicide, another detective series created by Bruce Ramsay about an investigator teaming up with an AI version of himself to solve crimes. RDF oversees creative control, while Omnifilm produces and finances their collaborative projects.
While no other details about Time of Death have been revealed, the show is a promising evolution for Barry’s prolific TV career. Although Warrior Nun season 3 never came to fruition, the show’s well-remembered story and characters have been a cornerstone of his career since its cancellation. Now, he’ll be flexing his writing skills for an entirely new project.
Time of Death will be Barry’s first TV show not adapted from other media since the 2017 crime drama Bad Blood.
As of writing, it’s unclear what the timeline for the detective series will be, and how far along into development it will be before Barry begins filming on Bet season 2. However, the series’ unique premise and the intrigue that comes from it means he might just have another successful television venture on his hands.
While the Warrior Nun creator’s new show is a far cry from the action drama and from Bet‘s premise, Time of Death seems like the promising start of a lucrative partnership between RDF and Omnifilm. As more details arise, the show has a shot at being yet another popular, successful venture for Barry in the world of TV dramas.
