Warning! Spoilers ahead for Fallout season 2, episode 1.
Fallout’s season 2 premiere has introduced us to the inhabitants of Vault 24, who have been turned into communists, and an implant device that blows up people’s heads. Fallout season 2, episode 1 picks up where the last season left off, as Lucy and the Ghoul begin the long trek to New Vegas to reunite with Hank.
The season premiere has delivered some exciting teases for the weeks ahead. Not only has it brought in Robert House as the big bad; it’s going back to show us what his life was like before the Great War. On Lucy and the Ghoul’s journey, they’re already making shocking discoveries about this post-apocalyptic world.
Lucy & The Ghoul Discovered That Vault 24’s Dwellers Were Turned Into Communists
Lucy and the Ghoul’s story in Fallout season 2 is essentially being set up as a buddy road movie. They’re a pair of mismatched traveling companions going on a dangerous journey together, and over the course of their life-threatening adventures, they’ll inevitably grow closer and maybe even become friends. It’s a classic Midnight Run story, with the perfect lead duo.
In the premiere episode, during their travels, Lucy and the Ghoul discover Vault 24, a setting that was cut from the New Vegas video game (but later got reinstated by mods). They learn that the inhabitants of Vault 24 all got turned into communists, a stark contrast from the usual social framework of Vault-Tec’s underground havens.
Hank Used The Guy In Vault 24 As A Message For Lucy
Hank used one of the inhabitants of Vault 24 as a breadcrumb for Lucy to follow. One of the guys in Vault 24 calls her “sugar bomb.” He tells her to go home, and promises that he (meaning Hank) will fix everything. After his head exploded, the Ghoul found a device that was attached to the guy’s neck, which allowed Hank to communicate through him.
What Those Devices Are In Fallout & Why They Make Heads Explode
What happened with the guy in Vault 24 is the same thing that happened with House and the man from the bar. The same device was implanted in his neck and ended up making his head explode. These mysterious implant devices aren’t overtly explained in the show, but it’s easy to infer from context what their purpose is.
It seems like Hank and House are attempting to control people using these devices, but the technology is still crude and primitive, so it ends up blowing up their heads. Either way, the devices connect back to Hank and House, and it’ll be interesting to see where Fallout season 2 goes with this plotline.
