ScreenRant’s TV experts have hand-selected the top 3 shows to watch this weekend, May 29–31, 2026, now streaming exclusively on Apple TV. While Apple TV has an ever-expanding vault of great streaming shows to choose from, ranging from critically acclaimed sci-fi hits like Severance to overlooked comedy series such as Platonic, the premium platform continues to produce a variety of must-watch series that are worth your time this weekend.
Apple TV has firmly established itself as a source of some of streaming’s best comedy (Ted Lasso, The Studio) and sci-fi (For All Mankind, Silo) series, but has recently upped its game in the crime thriller genre. Your Friends & Neighbors, starring Jon Hamm and James Marsden, remains one of the most-watched shows on the platform heading into another weekend this year, and Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed looks to be another pulse-pounding hit. Although these are all good options on Apple TV right now, the following three original shows are the very best to watch this weekend.
Sugar
Sugar returns for its second season in just a few weeks, making now the perfect time to dive into the Los Angeles-based crime thriller series. Starring Oscar and Emmy nominee Colin Farrell (The Lobster, The Penguin), Sugar is a classic hard-boiled detective mystery thriller with a modern edge. It follows private investigator John Sugar (Farrell) as he works a case for famous Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel, searching for his missing granddaughter.
Sugar season 1 premiered back in 2024 and earned a strong Rotten Tomatoes score of 81%. Farrell is joined by Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Barry, Killing Eve), Amy Ryan (The Office, Gone Baby Gone), and Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad, Sully) in this 8-part series created by Mark Protosevich (Oldboy, Thor, I Am Legend). Other than a 49-minute premiere, Sugar season 1 consists of snappy, easy-to-binge episodes that run from 32 to 26 minutes each. With season 2 set to arrive on Friday, June 19, Sugar is a great show to dive into this weekend.
Star City
The only new original series premiering on Apple TV this week is Star City, a sci-fi drama that drops its first two episodes on Friday, May 29. The thrilling new alternate history series is the first official spinoff of For All Mankind, one of Apple TV’s most celebrated sci-fi shows of all time. For All Mankind takes place in a fictional world in which the Soviet Union beat the United States in the race to the moon. While the original series tells the story from the American perspective, Star City flips the script and offers an insider lens behind the Iron Curtain.
Even though Star City exists in the same narrative universe as For All Mankind, the creators intentionally crafted the new series as a standalone, meaning that viewers don’t have to have seen all five seasons of the original show to dive into it. Described as an intense spy thriller more than a true sci-fi series, Star City will consist of eight episodes that will drop weekly on Fridays from this week until July 10.
Widow’s Bay
Star City may be the newest show on Apple TV, and Your Friends & Neighbors might still be holding on to the streamer’s #1 spot this weekend, but Widow’s Bay is the most exciting new release on the platform right now. Matthew Rhys continues to demonstrate why he’s one of the best working actors in television right now, leading an exceptional cast that also consists of Stephen Root, Kate O’Flynn, Jeff Hiller, and more.
HBO Max’s Near-Perfect Comedy Series Is So Good, It Deserves More Seasons
HBO Max’s beloved comedy series, with a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and multiple Emmy Awards, deserves more seasons despite its recent finale.
Combining sitcom comedy and paranormal horror, Widow’s Bay is truly one of a kind and one of the best shows on TV right now for its inventive genre-blending and sharp storytelling. This weekend is the perfect opportunity to start watching Widow’s Bay if you haven’t already, as two new episodes just arrived on the streamer earlier this week, leaving only three more until the June 17 finale. With its near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and increasing viewership week by week, Widow’s Bay is a must-watch show on Apple TV this weekend.
