Timothy Olyphant opens up about a rumored feud between himself and his Justified co-star Walton Goggins. Justified aired on FX from 2010 to 2016. Olyphant starred as Raylan Givens, a feared man of the law and what many TV fans call one of the best TV western characters. Goggins played Boyd Crowder in Justified, a criminal, and both actors appeared in all 6 seasons of the acclaimed series.
In an interview with THR, Timothy Olyphant addressed the rumors of his relationship with Walton Goggins. Olyphant revealed that he and Goggins share a “deep friendship,” and he even saw the actor when they were both in Thailand. Olyphant did admit that they did have a rough patch towards the end of filming Justified, but they do not have a feud. Read Timothy’s quote below:
“Let me tell you something. Walt Goggins is one of my favorite actors I’ve ever worked with. I love him. I would even say I have a deep friendship with that man, and so I only care about the things that he and I say directly to each other.”
“We had a tough time towards the end. We were so deep into these people we were playing, and they were so polar opposite at this point in the story. I think we were both obsessed with our own points of view, just carrying the weight of this conflict.”
“There are a lot of different ways of [doing this job], and he has his. We were in Bangkok for Alien when he was in Ko Samui for The White Lotus. My wife and I went down specifically to hang out with him. Anytime you see a friend on the other side of the world, it’s like, ‘Hey, look at us!’ He seemed to be having a good time to me.”
What This Means For Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins
Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins always seemed to have a deep friendship, but they reportedly clashed during the filming of Justified‘s final seasons. Goggins once admitted that he stopped speaking to Olyphant completely by the time filming on the series finale started.
Justified is currently available to stream on Hulu and Disney+
According to statements made by both actors, it seems as though one of the main reasons they had tension on set was because Olyphant and Goggins were both so invested in their characters, who also had tension in the show. However, these new comments made by Olyphant show that this tension has ceased, and the animosity was never actually serious.
Both Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins are terrific actors, so the fact that they are still friends is great news since viewers may be able to see them working together again. On-set tensions between actors can sometimes be exaggerated online, so it makes sense that the “feud” didn’t truly hurt their friendship.
Olyphant and Goggins both seem to fully immerse themselves in the characters they play. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that they wouldn’t want to be too buddy-buddy on the set of a show like Justified, so that the tension on screen would feel as real as possible.
