Tim Curry was born to play flamboyant oddballs, making his unforgettable turn as the outrageous, cross-dressing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). His career continued with memorable performances as Rooster Hannigan in Annie (1982), Darkness in Ridley Scott’s Legend (1985), the Concierge in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers (1993), and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island (1996). Now, following his death, Curry’s cult classic mystery thriller is seeing a revival on streaming.
That classic mystery comedy is Clue. The 1985 film based on the board game stars Tim Curry as the butler Wadsworth, one of seven strangers stuck in a secluded mansion where a series of murders leaves them scrambling to uncover which of them is the killer, with the film featuring three different endings and solutions to the central mystery. Now, Clue is No. 3 on the Top 10 movies on Paramount+ in the United States for today, August 27.
Clue (1985) is also streaming on MGM+.
Tim Curry’s Clue Is One Of His Ultimate Streaming Sensations
Though Clue is currently Tim Curry’s only movie trending in the United States, Charlie’s Angels (2000) is trending on Apple TV’s Top 10 movies in some international regions – including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, and Switzerland. Charlie’s Angels is streaming on Apple TV in the United States, so it’s seemingly only a matter of time before it trends there as well.
In Charlie’s Angels, Curry plays Roger Corwin, a smug tech billionaire who runs a communications-satellite company known as Redstar. Even in limited screen time, Curry delivers a characteristically memorable and delightfully campy performance, including a famous scene in which he receives an intense massage from Lucy Liu’s character, and another in which he challenges Bill Murray’s to a sumo wrestling match.
Other Tim Curry Classics Are Sure To Resurface On Streaming Soon
With Clue currently conquering streaming, other Tim Curry classics are sure to resurface on streaming soon. There’s Congo (1995) and Scary Movie 2 (2001), which are also available on Paramount+, which audiences could easily turn to after Clue. Meanwhile, Home Alone 2, The Three Musketeers, and Muppet Treasure Island are all streaming on Disney+, a few of his more family-friendly films.
However, The Hunt for Red October (1990), one of my personal favorites, is streaming for free on Pluto TV. If Clue is any indication, other Tim Curry classics could make comebacks on streaming very soon.
