This Man On Fire Meets Sicario Thriller Is So Good, It Spawned Another Show

This gritty Amazon Prime thriller plays like a blend of Sicario and Man on Fire, and was such a hit that the streamer immediately greenlit a spinoff. Taylor Sheridan famously quit Sons of Anarchy after being bluntly told he wasn’t worth the modest pay raise he requested. Realizing his acting career was headed nowhere, Sheridan turned to screenwriting instead.

Sheridan soon became a Cinderella story in the industry after he penned Sicario, Wind River and Hell or High Water in quick succession. Sicario is now seen as one of the 2010s’ best thrillers, and rightly so. The movie is nightmarishly taut and gripping, and features career-best work from Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro.

Many movies and shows have tried to recapture Sicario’s intensity, including – ironically – Sicario: Day of the Soldado. This also includes 2026’s Man on Fire, the third adaptation of the famous novel. Netflix’s seven-part TV series reimagined and updated the original story, and while it still doesn’t hit the highs of Sicario, it’s a solid action thriller.

Prime’s The Terminal List has plenty of Man on Fire DNA too, as the source material was inspired by the latter novel. While The Terminal List received mixed reviews, it was a big streaming success. Sadly for Prime, leading man Chris Pratt’s schedule became so packed it meant he couldn’t return for a second season for years, so instead, they greenlit the spinoff, Dark Wolf.

Dark Wolf Proved The Terminal List Is Here To Stay

Dark Wolf isn’t based on any of author Jack Carr’s Terminal List books, and instead tells an original story focused on Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards. In the original show, Edwards was the best friend of the vengeance-seeking Reece (Pratt) – only for the finale to reveal Edwards played a role in the deaths of Reece’s SEAL team.

Dark Wolf shows how Edwards went from a troubled but honorable SEAL to a CIA assassin addicted to the action. In many ways, this second show is an improvement on the original, featuring a more complex anti-hero, better setpieces, and a more propulsive story. It also wisely dropped the ultra-murky visual look of the original series, which often made it tricky to see what was happening.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf’s critical reception was an uptick on its parent show, and also proved there was still an audience for the franchise. There was a three-year gap between The Terminal List and its spinoff, and while that could spell death for many new shows, Dark Wolf made it clear there was still a fanbase.

The Terminal List Season 2 Needs To Confirm Ben Edwards Fate

The Terminal List ended with Reece completing his list, which included killing Ben after his betrayal was uncovered. It doesn’t appear that Kitsch is returning for the second season, which fittingly adapts the second book, True Believer. While Ben’s fate was seemingly sealed after Reece marked his name off the titular list, the show keeps his fate a little ambiguous.

Taylor Kitsch hasn’t appeared in a movie since 2019’s 21 Bridges.

Ben’s death isn’t shown onscreen, and Dark Wolf itself ends with a tease that another series could happen. Technically, this could still take place before the events of the original show, but regardless, The Terminal List season two has to underline Ben’s fate one way or another. The character was trying to achieve some sense of redemption by aiding Reece, so it’s not inconceivable Pratt’s protagonist let him live.

Kitsch is one of the big standouts from The Terminal List saga, and his presence would be missed if he doesn’t return. Sure, Reece shooting his old friend would work as a complete arc, but Edwards still trying to redeem his actions in the second season would add an intriguing layer to the story. Either way, fans will find out when the show finally returns in October 2026.
