The Usurper Officially Unveiled Ahead Of New Season

Apple TV’s adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s iconic Foundation saga has become one of the most compelling series in modern sci-fi, with each season proving that a faithful retelling of the original work isn’t dependent on sticking strictly to Asimov’s structure. The Foundation series has introduced several major changes to the source material (out of necessity) while still preserving what made the original text so beloved.

The creation of the Genetic Dynasty, with successive Brother Dawn, Day, and Dusk clones ruling the Empire, is perhaps the show’s most successful original addition, giving the vast political machinery of Asimov’s universe a recognizable human face, and an excuse to keep Lee Pace in the spotlight over the course of the entire show. These changes were largely necessary because the novels unfold across enormous stretches of time, frequently replacing characters as history moves forward.

While fans are eager for the next season of Foundation, there’s still no official release date from Apple TV as of this writing, but there’s an equally exciting new release on the way with Foundation: The Usurper (via YouTube).

The Usurper is the official title for the newly revealed upcoming season of Foundation: Galactic Frontier, which was “leaked” today ahead of the Season 2 launch on September 14. YouTuber Mirandus Plays got a sneak peek at the newest seasonal content through a sponsored video from the game’s developers, wherein he gets a preview of The Usurper arc which has yet to be revealed in-game. The overview for season 2 is as follows, according to the newly posted video:

“The war in Kirrel is over, but the galaxy remains fractured. As trade routes struggle to recover, traders have turned their sights toward the resource-rich Siwenna Province. For generations, the region has been battered by relentless electromagnetic storms. Yet an even greater threat now rules these worlds: The Ascendancy Court.”

The new season will introduce a brand-new story arc where “the lies behind the Ascendancy Throne will finally be exposed,” while players will also be introduced to new gameplay features and challenges such as the Electromagnetic Storm, Electromagnetic Shield Towers, the Ore Refinery, the Ascendancy Hall, which can be claimed for massive rewards, and the Aromabloom War.

Season 2 will also feature two new major factions: The Progressive Front and the Ascendancy Court, which will be at the center of the conflict, where players will compete for various new seasonal rewards during several events that will release over the course of the season. Ultimately, players will work to discover who the enigmatic Usurper figure is throughout the season, which will kick off on all servers starting next week.
