A new Marvel Cinematic Universe team may not get the payoff audience members have been waiting for after all.
Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel in the MCU franchise, recently appeared on the Revenge Of show, where she was asked about the Young Avengers progression. The young star shared that “I will say I’m personally more of a Champions fan than Young Avengers. I think those story lines are way more relevant. But I also think none of us [is] going to be young by the time they get around to that.”
The team’s last progression was during The Marvels ending in 2023, when Kamala Khan visits Kate Bishop, informing her that she is putting together a group of young heroes. However, after their brief scene, the MCU has not revisited this storyline in quite some time.
To Vellani’s point, the Young Avengers team in the comics is meant to follow teenagers, and with the members that exist in the franchise right now, they are either close to entering adulthood or are already in their 20s. In Kamala’s case, she is still in high school, but will likely have already graduated by the time she is back on screen.
However, many, including the Ms. Marvel lead herself, have suggested that a new take on Champions is the better option for the MCU timeline. Whether or not Marvel Studios will shift the Young Avengers to that team instead is unclear, though.
In July 2025, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke about the Young Avengers coming to fruition down the line. He stated at the time that a spinoff is possible: “Potentially… In that case, it comes down to where’s the best story and where is the best strange alchemy. Who would be fun to see them with? Each other, because that’s what the Young Avengers are, but also mixing it up more.”
While Young Avengers may not be one of the upcoming MCU movies for Marvel Studios, Phase 6 is focusing on finishing The Multiverse Saga once and for all. It’s possible that Phase 7 could be where the new generation of heroes finally get to team up, but that remains to be seen.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring Tom Holland’s Peter Parker back into the MCU on July 31. The next two Avengers movies will conclude Phase 6, with this year’s Doomsday on December 18 and Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
