Red Dead Redemption 3 Lead Character Unites Gamers, And We Back It Too

Despite the Native American population playing a large role during the time of the American Frontier, they are hardly represented in the Red Dead franchise. Whilst there are some Native American characters, such as the people of the Wapiti Indian Reservation in Red Dead Redemption 2, we are yet to see what the story may look like from the perspective of a Native American protagonist. As such, despite many fans having fallen in love with John Marston and Arthur Morgan over the years, maybe it is time to shine a light on a Native American outlaw.

Red Dead Redemption 3 Should Offer A New Perspective

Despite there being no official confirmation of Red Dead Redemption 3, fans have not stopped discussing it since the last entry, Red Dead Redemption 2, launched back in 2018. With discussions ranging from potential settings to time periods, story beats to returning characters, one point that many fans seem to agree on is that Red Dead Redemption 3 should offer a brand-new perspective courtesy of a brand-new protagonist, especially one who has no links to the Van der Linde gang.

However, it was one user over on r/reddeadredemption that offered a unique perspective when they said, “How would you feel about RDR3 revolving around a Native American outlaw or warrior?”

“Personally, I think it’d be pretty cool considering that many of them were scouts during the Indian wars, especially Apache. It’d be awesome to see how they’d adapt in RDR2’s timeline because we don’t know much about them in the universe besides the Wapiti. Imagine playing as an Apache sharpshooter in a gang of renegades in the 1880s, ambushing army payrolls and shipments, then smuggling supplies across the border while dealing with other challenges besides the federal government. The whole cast doesn’t have to be Native American, but it’d be very interesting to see a different viewpoint in history.”

I cannot help but agree that this would make an interesting third installment of the beloved Rockstar franchise and offer a unique look at how others survived during this period, not just white men.

Red Dead Fans Agree, Anyone Calling It “Woke” Isn’t Wanted

In today’s age, apparently wanting to hear the perspective from anybody who is not white is considered “woke”, but as a self-proclaimed woke person, I was happy to see that many comments in the Reddit thread agreed with this possible new outlook on the Red Dead franchise. Firstly, though, one person summed up my worries, saying: “It’s a cool idea, I think they could make a great story out of, but knowing the internet today, everyone would lose their minds and scream, “WOKE SLOP!” because the main character doesn’t look like the last three protagonists. It’s a good idea, but I think people are too sensitive to face a story that respectfully shows a native point of view.”

Another fan was on board with the idea, offering another unique perspective when they shared, “I’d love to experience it as the protagonist being an African American or Native American in the middle of 1885. Something along those lines.”

However, it is also worth sharing that one Red Dead fan, who is Amerindian, is not so sure that this is a good idea. They shared, “I’d rather them not, as an Amer-Indian. I absolutely don’t trust Rockstar, or any company to handle the narrative without accidentally or intentionally making us look like caricatures.”

With no official confirmation of Red Dead Redemption 3, it remains to be seen where the story will head, or if it will continue at all. For now, however, fans continue to speculate on what will make this story continue with its masterpiece status.
