Real Madrid are interested in Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi, according to Teamtalk, and the move has received a seal of approval from head coach Jose Mourinho.
Zubimendi played an important role in Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning campaign following his arrival from Real Sociedad for €65 million last summer, but injuries significantly reduced his influence towards the end of the season, and he was not in the starting lineup for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. He is set for even fewer minutes on the pitch this time around, as Bruno Guimaraes arrived from Newcastle to further boost Mikel Arteta’s midfield ranks.
Apparently, talks between the 27-year-old’s representatives and the club to assess the situation have already taken place. The 27-year-old is now open to the idea of a move away from the Emirates, should a suitable club move for his services. Real Madrid certainly fall into that category.
Mourinho would like to add a player with experience and strong presence to the base of his midfield, and he sees Zubimendi as a good candidate for that role, with Eduardo Camavinga informed he can look for a new club.
