Protector Of The Realm Officially Announced

There may not be a more perfectly hateable character in the Game of Thrones universe than the notorious brat himself, Joffrey Baratheon. Played brilliantly by Jack Gleeson, Joffrey quickly became one of television’s most despised villains, with Gleeson somehow making every sneer, tantrum, and cruel outburst feel equal parts unbearable and unmissable.

Joffrey was also one of the most consequential characters in the story, with his decision to have Ned Stark executed being one of the show’s most shocking hooks. He relentlessly humiliated Sansa Stark, treated Tyrion like trash, and was casually cruel toward nearly everyone around him, making audiences hate him more and more with each passing season. Even comparatively smaller moments, like forcing Sansa to look at her father’s severed head or tormenting Tyrion during the royal wedding feast, helped cement his reputation as an irredeemable monster.

Joffrey was utterly loathsome in the best way possible thanks to Gleeson, and his eventual death at the Purple Wedding was easily one of the most cathartic moments in the entire series. However, for better or worse, Joffrey is back from the grave to torment us again in Game of Thrones: Protector of the Realm (via GoTL).

Joffrey Baratheon is officially back in Game of Thrones: Legends as Protector of the Realm, an upcoming Legendary Champion that players will be able to use starting September 16. Joffrey’s new Champion variant comes with the “Severity Is The Price Of Greatness” skill, which “ensures no assault against House Lannister goes unpunished.”

When Joffrey or a Lannister ally is struck by an enemy Skill, the offender is marked with Joffrey’s Scorn. Joffrey then deals boosted Physical Damage and inflicts Wounded when landing Critical Strikes on marked targets. Furthermore, receiving a Skill Heal from an ally increases Joffrey’s Critical Strike Chance until he unleashes his next Skill Crit.

The announcement of Protector of the Realm comes alongside several other unique releases for September, including two other iconic character Champions getting new variants as well: Melisandre as The Red Woman and the beloved Egg from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as The Bald Boy Squire.

Legends players can also look forward to two new Summons coming this month, with The Hand of the King officially bringing back Ned Stark and The Lady Of Bear Island featuring Lyanna Mormont. There will also be an exciting Legend Trial starting on September 12 titled A Blood Debt featuring Oberyn Martell.
