A new image of Godzilla reveals a bold new look for the King of Monsters, as the towering kaiju is shown with bright red skin while facing Rodan in a fiery battle.
Godzilla has had many forms over the years, as different continuities have evolved and enhanced the legendary kaiju to tackle bigger and bigger threats. Now, Godzilla will face its greatest challenge yet.
That’s because, in the latest Marvel crossover, Doctor Doom is assembling a kaiju army to go up against Godzilla, hunting down variants and alt-universe opponents of the King of Monsters to break the King in Black’s influence and defeat the destructive Titan once and for all.
A Trip Across the Multiverse Introduces Red Godzilla
Marvel recently shared a look at Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #1, from Gerry Duggan and Javier Garrón. The series is the third in a trilogy, following the events of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe and Godzilla: Infinity Roar, which concluded with the King in Black unleashing Godzilla on Asgard and crushing Earth’s heroes.
Thankfully, Doctor Doom managed to escape with a ragtag group of heroes, now known as the Avengers of Doom. His plan is to travel the multiverse, gathering kaiju who can fight back against Godzilla. Marvel’s preview shows Doom’s team entering a new universe – one in which a red Godzilla and Rodan battle against classic Marvel monster Giganto, a frequent enemy of the Fantastic Four.
In this world, Godzilla is bright red, and has seemingly been felled by a fiery attack from Rodan. Marvel also shares comments from writer Gerry Duggan, hinting what other monsters Doom will wrangle as part of his quest:
We reach for old friends, and we make some new ones. Mecha Fin Fang Foom? With an adamantium hide? Yes. Also, it’s a certain giant moth’s 60th this year…
Of course, Doom’s kaiju army depends on what his team can catch, and he’s assembled a bizarre selection of heroes for the task:

..But the New Wolverine Godzilla Is the Real Star of the Show
As cool as it is to get a taste of what this multiverse-hopping adventure will do to Godzilla’s design, it’s fair to say the series already has its breakout star. Cover art for the series has teased an upcoming Godzilla variant with giant Wolverine claws, seemingly based on Dave Wachter’s variant cover for Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #4 (above.)
With Marvel’s own giant monsters, Redzilla, an implied Mothra variant, an adamantium Fin Fang Foom and the new Wolverine-clawed Godzilla variant, Doctor Doom has the makings of a jaw-dropping kaiju team. But with Godzilla having defeated Earth’s heroes again and again in this trilogy, can even Doctor Doom’s monstrous army hope to defeat the King of Monsters?
Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #1 is coming July 22 from Marvel Comics.
