‘No reason’ to want Salah to leave Liverpool says Slot

Liverpool manager Arne Slot says there is ‘no reason’ why he wouldn’t want Mohamed Salah to stay at the cluub but has not decided if he will feature against Brighton on Saturday.

Salah was left at home for the Champions League win in Milan in midweek after claiming he had been made a scapegoat for the club’s poor first half of the season.

Salah said he had been “thrown under the bus” and claimed he no longer had a relationship with manager Slot.

Slot said: “We decided as a club and I was part of that, not to take him to Inter.

“Do I want him to stay? The next time I speak about Mo will be with him. I see no reason why I don’t want him to stay.”

Salah last scored for the Reds on 1 November and is due to join up with Egypt for the African Cup of Nations soon.

The Reds face Brighton on Saturday and Slot will speak to the forward before naming his squad.

“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning, the outcome of that conversation determines how things will look tomorrow,” Slot said.

“After the Sunderland game there were a lot of conversation between his representatives and ours, between him and me.”

The late win in Milan made it four games unbeaten since Slot dropped Salah and he is happy with how they have performed.

“Apart from being unbeaten, we have shown we have been a team in the last four games that is difficult to beat and create chances against,” the manager said.

“The team has worked really hard, put a lot of effort in, been a bit unlucky in the results but showed great resilience, four games in 10 days with not a lot of players available.

“It’s a compliment to the players, how they managed to get some results and the effort they put in.”
