Amazon MGM brought Eternia to CinemaCon 2026 with the first look at Masters of the Universe, as Camila Mendes offered new insight into the film’s iconic villain.

While introducing the footage, Mendes described Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, as “powerful and ambitious,” hinting at a version of the character driven by a need for control. That idea carries through the trailer, which ends with Skeletor declaring, “I mean to be a god.” At the same time, the footage makes it clear Masters of the Universe isn’t just focused on big action. Director Travis Knight said hope is a key theme, and that really comes through in Adam’s story.

The sequence starts on Earth, where Nicholas Galitzine’s He-Man — seen in civilian form — is arrested by police who jokingly compare him to Highlander and King Arthur. That grounded moment doesn’t last long, though, as a massive creature suddenly starts tearing through traffic, jumping across cars and sending people running. Adam manages to break free, holding onto the Sword of Power almost as if it’s a baby. He’s quickly taken down soon after by the creature, but just when things start looking bleak, Teela shows up and takes it out in a quick, intense fight before recognizing Adam and helping him back up. From there, the footage shifts into a montage that hints at a more emotional story, with Teela telling Adam everything has changed since he left. Adam, meanwhile, continues to grapple with the fact that the world moved on without him, as he remembers everyone, but they all think he’s dead.

That emotional thread runs alongside the grandeur of the film, with glimpses of large-scale battles, including ships and a striking sequence set in a vivid red forest shown in the first-look footage. Skeletor’s presence is ominous throughout, questioning who Adam is without the sword and pushing him to figure out what kind of hero he wants to be.

The trailer builds to the moment fans have been waiting for, as Adam finally says, “I have the power,” sending the sword into the air before launching into a series of fast, high-impact fight scenes before ending on the Masters of the Universe logo.

In addition to Mendes, Leto, and Galitzine, the cast includes Morena Baccarin, who plays the Sorceress, James Purefoy, who takes on the role of King Randor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Sasheer Zamata as Suzie, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Jon Xue Zhang as Ram-Man, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, with Kristin Wiig voicing the role of Roboto.

The live-action Masters of the Universe movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
