Man Utd change midfield plans

Manchester United are no longer exploring the possibility of signing a third midfielder this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Red Devils have already landed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to bolster their midfield. They also have Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, who can comfortably operate in the centre of the park. Manuel Ugarte is injured for the long-term.

With five solid senior options, United have changed their priorities for the back end of the transfer window and may not pursue a third midfield signing.

Instead, the focus could be on landing a new left-back to support Luke Shaw, who has been injury-prone during his 12-year stay with the Red Devils.

Shaw managed to stay unscathed throughout last season, but his fitness could be put to test with extra European workload and training sessions next term.

With Patrick Dorgu now viewed as a winger, United could seriously pursue a young left-back. Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall is highly regarded by the club.
