Combined with how massive Legacy of The Dark Knight‘s open world is, there are countless opportunities for hidden details still waiting to be discovered.

The official LEGO X account hasn’t been shy of responding to Easter egg discoveries either, making some of the later appearances in this list even more surprising.

Even in the short time since release, fans have already found countless references that not only replicate or take inspiration from iconic moments across a wide array of Batman media, but also more than a few surprising Easter eggs that show just how much love was put into Legacy of The Dark Knight‘s environments.

A Few Familiar Weapons Can Still Be Found In Arkham City

When you meet Legacy of The Dark Knight‘s Lucias Fox for the very first time, a nearby vault will have a few inconspicuously designed weapons leaning against it that offer a familiar sight for fans of a beloved LEGO game.

Even though it might look like a generic LEGO weapon to many, Lucias’ new tech is actually a copy of the deconstructor from LEGO Batman 2, which was previously wielded by none other than Lex Luther himself. While you unfortunately can’t weld the powerful weapon for your own gain, it’s still a nice touch that acknowledges LEGO Batman‘s predecessors that paved the way for Legacy of The Dark Knight.

The Closest Thing We’ll Get To A Resident Evil-Themed LEGO Release

Being the owner of Legacy of The Dark Knight‘s in-game story, Bat Mite has no shortage of fourth-wall-breaking interests and references to throw out at a confused Batman, but one line and outfit easily stand out from the rest.

Aside from helping you achieve 100% completion thanks to his variety of goods, Bat Mite can’t help but imitate the iconic merchant from Resident Evil 4, as there’s a chance he’ll say the merchant’s iconic “What are you buying?” line before cutting himself off. Some players have also apparently even caught Bat Mite wearing his own take on the merchants’ outfit, but it seems to be far less common.

LEGO Batman’s Shop Has Some Fantastic Room Decor

As if Bat Mite’s unique interest in horror games wasn’t notable enough, his shop has no shortage of references to real-world anime in the form of LEGO-themed posters based on the protagonists from a variety of iconic shows across the decades, which players like Blitzwinger on X have recorded as a creative collage.

With nods to popular shōnen anime like Naruto and One Piece, to classic films such as Akira and Spirited Away, Bat Mite’s referential taste in room decor feels surprisingly appropriate for the fifth-dimensional being. Even outside of Bat Mite’s store, Legacy of The Dark Knight‘s entire world is filled to the brim with posters and billboards referencing iconic moments from the series other media that you’ll want to keep an eye out for.

Arctic World Has A Polar Bear You Don’t Want To Mess With

While exploring the Penguin’s Arctic World, you can find a plethora of abandoned decorations tucked away in a storage room, and while there is no shortage of penguin figures and snowmen, a few familiar animatronics are a clever nod to none other than the classic horror franchise Five Nights at Freddy‘s.

As if the skeleton lying beneath an outdated animatronic wasn’t already enough of a clue, the Polar Bear will even invite you to be had for dinner at their diner, before claiming Arctic World has no responsibility for any injuries that occur on their premises. While the possibility of “clawing, biting, dismemberment, and ingestion” is quite familiar for fans of the franchise, the official LEGO account even reacted to the discovery on X with “Is that the Bat of ’39?!?”

The Penguin Has A Wide Taste Of Referential Interests

While it might not be as involved as some of LEGO Batman‘s other Easter eggs, while fighting The Penguin and his legion of henchmen within Artic World, the dastardly gang will spit out no shortage of callbacks to a surprising number of classic franchises. While it makes more sense to hear the Penguin quote 90s films like Home Alone‘s “Merry Christmas ya filthy animals”, a few others are even more shocking.

Not only do the Penguin’s Henchmen call out “for the emperor” in a way that’s eerily similar to the shout from Warhammer 40,000, but the Penguin will also shout out “so anyway, I started blasting,” which is a clear nod to one of the most widely popularized moments from the hit comedy show Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

This Infamous Batman Tweet Has Been Immortalized Forever

While this Easter egg was revealed in one of the playable demos before Legacy of the Dark Knight was officially released, that hasn’t stopped fans from discovering the iconic quote for themselves.

Spoken by the wordsmith Alfred himself within Bruce’s Batcave, Michael Caine’s unforgettable “Batman Begin” quote from 2024 was pulled directly from the game, much to the surprise of the players who originally found it. While the tweet is one of the more recent memes in the Batman fandom, it’s a funny way to contribute to Legacy of The Dark Knight‘s status as a love letter to the series, no matter how niche.

Poison Ivy’s Snapdragon Has A Blink And You’ll Miss It Movie Reference

While some of the other entries on this list are a little more on the nose, there’s one Easter egg within one of Legacy of The Dark Knight‘s many cutscenes that really is one you can go the entire game without realizing, which can be seen in the Poison Ivy boss battle.

Halfway through the boss battle, after Robin and Batman both jump away to throw batarangs at Ivy’s Snapdragon, the two heads will reenact the velociraptor kitchen scene from the original Jurassic Park film frame for frame. While the short reference can be easy to miss, it becomes impossible to unsee after comparing the two side by side for the first time.

One Diner Challenge Sounds A Bit Too Familiar To Ignore

If you manage to stumble across one of the diners in Arkham City, you can find two NPCs arguing over a food challenge good enough to warrant getting them a photo on the wall, which is followed by a direct reference to one of the most iconic quotes from Tim Robinson’s comedy show, I Think You Should Leave.

While Legacy of the Dark Knight has no shortage of TV and comedy references, the interaction’s punchline from the show’s most viral clip is one of the funniest discoveries players have made so far.

Bikini Bottom’s Rent Seems To Have Gotten Out Of Control

While completing the Iceberg Lounge quest in Legacy of The Dark Knight, you’ll come across some windows to an underwater aquarium that has more than just fish swimming around, but a nod to none other than SpongeBob SquarePants.

While Patrick Star didn’t seem to make the cut, by carefully aiming at the left window, you’ll be able to see a clear depiction of both SpongeBob and Squidward’s houses in the distorted water. What’s even more interesting about the tucked-away reference is that both Batman and SpongeBob received their first LEGO set introductions in the same year in 2006, offering more than just a random reference, but a clear callback to the series’ roots.

While this is another scene that happens to play out in another main cutscene from Legacy of The Dark Knight, the callback to American Psycho is one of the most surprising Easter eggs to show up in a LEGO game yet.

While the R-rated horror comedy is a bit of an odd choice, the business card scene that has been the source of countless memes over the years is one of the many moments of pop culture that has managed to sneak its way into LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight, which TT Games was able to adapt surprisingly well into the animated humor of the series.
