Kelleher set to join Brentford after Liverpool accept deal for goalkeeper

Caoimhin Kelleher is set to join Brentford from Liverpool after the Premier League champions agreed to a deal worth up to £18 million for the goalkeeper, according to reports.

It comes after reports earlier on Sunday that Bees keeper Mark Flekken will be joining Bayer Leverkusen after the two clubs reached an agreement in the region of €10 million (£8.4m) for the 31-year-old.

The initial fee agreed in the Kelleher deal is believed to be £12.5 million, per Sky Sports, with a further £5.5 million to be paid in various add-ons.

The 26-year-old has had to play second fiddle to Alisson at Anfield for the last four seasons, proving himself on several occasions to be a reliable understudy to the Reds’ No.1.

But the Republic of Ireland international – who has two Premier League winners medals – has long maintained that he is good enough to be a first-choice keeper and he is expected to undergo a medical with Brentford on Monday.

Liverpool, meanwhile, already have a replacement for Kelleher, with Giorgi Mamardashvili‘s £29 million transfer from Valencia – initially announced in August 2024 – now becoming official.

Flekken’s move will see him work under Erik ten Hag after the former Manchester United boss was named manager last week.

Ten Hag’s appointment came just 24 hours after Leverkusen’s departing manager, Xabi Alonso, was officially confirmed as Real Madrid’s new head coach, with Carlo Ancelotti taking the reigns of the Brazil national team.
