Cape Verde World Cup hero Vozinha had ‘no doubts’ over Colo-Colo move

Cape Verde star Vozinha had “no doubts” about joining Colo-Colo once he learned about the club’s interest in signing him.

The 40-year-old was unveiled by the Chilean club on Tuesday after the goalkeeper joined as a free agent.

Vozinha rose to fame at the 2026 World Cup, starring for Cape Verde as they reached the round of 32 before suffering a dramatic extra-time defeat to Argentina.

Vozinha became the oldest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet on his World Cup debut, making seven saves against eventual champions Spain in a 0-0 draw.

He also became the third goalkeeper to record multiple World Cup clean sheets after turning 40 years old, joining Peter Shilton (three) and Dino Zoff (two), with Cape Verde drawing all three of their group-stage games to qualify in second place.

Vozinha’s heroics earned him a move to Colo-Colo, a club the goalkeeper was determined to join.

“The decision was very clear. Despite playing in smaller leagues for clubs that weren’t exactly giants, deep down I always told myself I was a ‘big club’ player,” Vozinha said at a news conference.

“So when Colo-Colo came calling, there was no doubt.

“From day one, I knew where I wanted to play. I received many offers, but Colo-Colo was always the priority.

“The World Cup was the best thing that ever happened to me in football, but that is in the past now.

“Being here representing Colo-Colo, a massive club with a rich history, is the highlight of my club career.

“Playing in the World Cup comes with immense pressure.

“I played against the best national teams in the world, and now I just want to work hard and help this team achieve its goals.”

Vozinha could make his debut for league leaders Colo-Colo when they face bottom side Union La Calera on Sunday.
