Juventus strike late to win fifth game in a row

Juventus found late goals from Khephren Thuram and Teun Koopmeiners to seal a 2-0 home win against Hellas Verona in Serie A – a fifth win in a row for Thiago Motta’s side.

Juventus had 27 shots in a dominant showing but struggled to find a way past visiting goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo, who produced a string of saves to deny the giants.

But Thuram found a way past the heroic Verona keeper in the 72nd minute, scoring with crisp shot from around the penalty spot, and substitute Koopmeiners doubled the lead with a low shot from a tight angle in the 90th minute.

Juventus are up to fourth in the standings on 52 points, six off leaders Inter Milan and two above Lazio in fifth. Verona are 14th, four points above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile in Spain, Monday night’s league match between Villarreal and Espanyol was called off due to heavy rain.

The decision was taken just moments before kick-off at Villarreal’s Estadio de la Ceramica with thousands of spectators already in the ground.
