The End of Oak Street is already making its mark.

First reactions to J.J. Abrams’ new sci-fi movie, The End of Oak Street, have arrived, and fans are gearing up for its release. The new movie stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street out of suburbia and transports it to an unknown place. The Platt family discovers that they must work together to survive and navigate their terrifying surroundings. The End of Oak Street, directed by David Robert Mitchell, is already the talk of the town as critics react.

Filmmaker Edgar Wright, known for Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, was one of the first reviewers for The End of Oak Street. Wright appeared to enjoy the sci-fi adventure by calling it a “fun ride” and shared a post on Instagram stating:

“Thoroughly enjoyed David Robert Mitchell’s ‘The End Of Oak Street’, his first film on the big screen in 8 years. It’s such a fun ride, and while a very different movie from ‘It Follows’, has the similar obsession with terror lurking in the suburbs. The simple, yet totally out-there premise gave me the great vibe of EC Comics and The Twilight Zone. And if you are planning to see it, stop watching any more trailers. There are some great moments that in the spirit of early Amblin movies, push that PG 13 rating as hard as it will go*. I had a blast with it and I hope you do too. Go see it on a monster-sized screen.

*Famously, you can only use the ‘F’ word once in a PG 13 and the usage here is an especially good one.”

ScreenRant‘s Tatiana Hullender also shared her thoughts on The End of Oak Street and was another fan of Abrams’ latest adventure. She shared her thoughts on X and stated, “#TheEndOfOakStreet was actually awesome! Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor make for a compelling, complicated relationship dynamic, the dinosaurs were equal parts terrifying and hilarious, and Starbuck the dog is my new favorite film character.”

Brandon Davis also shared his thoughts regarding the new movie and specifically praised Hathaway’s performance in her role as Denise Platt by saying, “#TheEndOfOakStreet is a vicious blast. Anne Hathaway is so all-in on dino terror. Does it have a ton of logic? Maybe not… but is it pure fun thrills? Abso-f*ckin’-lutely. I think this is the best dinosaur movie in a few decades. Definitely the most fun. It’s insane.”

Journalist and critic Bill Bria was also a fan of The End of Oak Street, by praising both the director, Mitchell, and the “nasty dinos,” with his review which read, “The #EndofOakStreet is a thrilling, Amblin-ish adventure isn’t surprising. Yet the layers of melancholy and pain that David Robert Mitchell brings to it in between its abundance of thrills and heart is. Its idiosyncrasies are as unforgettable as its delightfully nasty dinos.“
