10 Highest-Grossing Movies Of 2026 (So Far)

This is a huge year for the film industry, with the highest-grossing movies of 2026 at the worldwide box office reflecting the wide range of titles audiences are responding to. Heading into the year, everyone from Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., Universal, Paramount, A24, and more had hopes of being responsible for some of the year’s biggest hits, with 2026’s most anticipated movies crossing their fingers to be included.

Major franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Universe, Star Wars, Dune, Toy Story, Hunger Games, and Super Mario have new installments that are already out or set to debut in the months ahead. Meanwhile, directors like Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Robert Eggers, and David Fincher have new films.

There have been plenty of notable success stories to come. Zendaya and Robert Pattinson gave A24 an early win with The Drama. Sony cashed in with their animated feature GOAT. The Scream and Mortal Kombat franchises returned with their biggest box office performers ever. And yet, none can claim to be one of the year’s 10 highest-grossing movies.

As we near the midway point of the year, these are the biggest performers at the worldwide box office in 2026 so far.

Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise has earned a spot in the top 10 as audiences have continued to check out the newest entry, Minions & Monsters. The animated sequel’s box office prospects were thrown into question after a franchise-low opening weekend of only $37 million domestically, despite Minions & Monsters‘ rave reviews.

Currently, the third Minions has made $473.5 million worldwide. $176.3 million has come from domestic theaters, while international audiences have contributed $297.1 million. It will need strong legs to climb higher in the charts and finish with a total that’s large enough to keep a spot.

Obsession is the box office sensation that just won’t stop. Curry Barker’s movie has made $488 million worldwide since debuting on May 15. $224.7 million has come overseas, with domestic audiences more responsible for turning the low-budget horror movie into a modern phenomenon, with $263.3 million earned so far.

Strong word of mouth is the story for Obsession‘s box office. After opening to $17.1 million, it increased its performance in consecutive weekends, making $23.9 million and $27.3 million in its second and third weekends. Even its fourth and fifth weekends ($25.3 million and $19 million) made more than its first. Obsession also stayed in the top 5 for its first seven weekends domestically.

One of the highest-grossing movies of 2026, Pegasus 3, is one that most have never seen. After all, the racing movie sequel only made $1.3 million at the domestic box office and has only been released in five other territories. The $656.4 million earner’s placement on this list is solely thanks to China.

Pegasus 3 made $653.9 million in China alone after releasing on February 17, the Chinese New Year. The first two movies were big hits in China, making $255.5 million and $422.3 million respectively. This makes Pegasus 3 the highest-grossing movie in the franchise and gives it the biggest international total of any 2026 movie so far.

It became Amazon MGM’s highest-grossing movie, and is Gosling’s second-biggest movie. Project Hail Mary also surpassed fellow Andy Weir book adaptation, The Martian ($630.6 million).

Illumination and Nintendo’s animated sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, has made over $1 billion worldwide. It achieved that milestone over two months after debuting in theaters on April 1.

$582.4 million has come internationally, with Mexico ($67.7 million), France ($54.1 million), the UK ($51.9 million), and Japan ($49.6 million) driving the most business. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has made $429.8 million domestically, where it spent three weekends at #1 and didn’t have a drop of over 50% in its first eight weekends.

While not quite matching the $1.3 billion success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the sequel was still a huge hit. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie spent a long time as 2026’s highest-grossing movie before being unseated.

After opening on April 24, Michael has officially grossed over $1 billion worldwide. It’s been a bigger hit internationally, netting $643.7 million thanks to success in countries like the UK ($71.6 million) and France ($57.7 million).

The domestic box office stands at $372.3 million. Michael began with a record $97.2 million opening weekend and has yet to have a weekend drop greater than 50% after nine weeks in theaters. Thanks to its continued success on the big screen, Michael became the highest-grossing musician biopic of all time and previously passed Oppenheimer to be the biggest biopic ever.

Pixar has launched a massive hit with Toy Story‘s return. Toy Story 5‘s opening weekend broke records. With $159.6 million domestically, it had the highest opening weekend for a Toy Story movie, as well as the second-biggest debut for a Pixar animated movie, behind only Incredibles 2.

Toy Story 5‘s total box office sits at over $1 billion, making it the year’s biggest hit. The domestic total has risen to $470.3 million, with international markets accounting for $623.6 million. It was #1 at the domestic box office for its first two weekends and eventually became the year’s highest-grossing movie for a short time.

Toy Story 5 has officially become the highest-grossing movie in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. That makes it Pixar’s third-biggest box office earner in history. It’s also become one of the 10 highest-grossing animated movies as a result.

The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s epic blockbuster has cemented itself as one of 2026’s highest-grossing movies. After releasing in theaters on July 17, The Odyssey has already grossed $1.1 billion worldwide. International audiences have accounted for more of that total, $643.6 million, but the movie has also been a force to be reckoned with domestically, earning $461.1 million so far.

The quick entry in the top 10 has come as audiences flock to the acclaimed adaptation. The Odyssey has set box office records for Nolan domestically and globally, with the $123.5 million opening stateside the biggest non-Batman performance for him. It then had an incredibly low drop of just -29.6% in its second weekend, earning another $87 million, which is more than Oppenheimer made in its debut weekend.

It’s beaten Oppenheimer‘s entire domestic gross already. The Odyssey has also become Nolan’s highest-grossing movie, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises‘ record. It will become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, if it can catch Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.338 billion).

Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s opening weekend box office broke the record for the largest domestic debut, though. Its $360 million launch beat Avengers: Endgame‘s record of $357 million. The movie exceeded the $1 billion milestone in just four days and became 2026’s highest-grossing movie at the box office after five days.

The MCU movie already set the single-day box office gross records for Monday and Tuesday, adding to Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s record-breaking performance, allowing it to become the fastest movie to $500 million domestically. And after a great second weekend, it had the biggest 10-day domestic gross in history. Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on track to become America’s highest-grossing movie ever, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ record.
