You might be done with Night City, but Night City isn’t done with you. Cyberpunk 2077 remains an absolute dream for gamers everywhere, and the sci-fi RPG has only continued to grow. In the years since its disastrous launch and successful rebirth, we’ve had graphic novel series, arcade games, and all sorts of surprising collaborations.
As excited as we are for the proper sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, there’s a definite wait to be had. The most recent update from CD Projekt confirmed there are 163 developers currently working on the next game, with the majority of CD Projekt’s resources understandably dedicated to The Witcher 4. I’m conflicted. I need The Witcher 4 like I need air in my lungs, but I also love Cyberpunk 2077 and want that sequel. Fortunately, there’s something new to tide us over.
CD Projekt Red has announced another collaboration with Dark Horse for a new adventure called Cyberpunk 2077: Jayk’s Case. This four-issue murder mystery comic takes place in Night City, and follows the story of a private investigator who has been hired to track down a killer. In a neat twist, the PI has been hired not to take the killer down, but to help them escape. If that sounds like an intriguing premise to you, the first issue releases October 21, so mark your calendars, or write it on your arm and then just don’t wash for the next several months (do not really do this).
Cyberpunk 2077: Jayk’s Case is written by Jordan Thomas, (Frank at Home on the Farm, Weird Work). The art is being handled by Nicola Izzo, who previously worked on Buffy: The Last Vampire Slayer. Meanwhile, Igor Monti and Frank Cvetkovic are on colorist and letterer duties respectively.
“Writing crime noir stories is always an absolute blast, so I was excited when Dark Horse approached me to tell a gumshoe detective story in the world of Cyberpunk 2077,” Thomas said as part of the announcement. “I hope fans will fall in love with the new characters we’re introducing to Night City and be thrilled by the vicious, blood-soaked journey we’ve sent them on.”
It’s unlikely that Cyberpunk 2077: Jayk’s Case will tie into the events of the game in any meaningful way. I don’t think we can expect V to show up (they’re busy, after all). Still, if you want a little more Night City in your life and have already played Cyberpunk 2077 to death, this is definitely the book for you.
