I Have Over 6k Hours

There are a genuinely alarming number of free games on Steam, to the extent that it can be a little hard to know where to start. With so much on offer, how can you possibly know what’s worth your time?

That’s where I come in, dear reader. Today, I’m here to draw your attention to a game that’s been around for years and has thousands of positive reviews on Steam. But because it may have been buried under the avalanche of other free Steam games, you may well have missed it.

Realm Of The Mad God Is A Free Steam Classic

Released in 2012, still going strong

If you’ve never played Realm Of The Mad God, you’re missing out on a pretty great time. Released back in 2012, this free-to-play MMORPG is still going strong. It just recently kicked off its festive-themed 25th season of content.

Here’s what developer Wild Shadow Studios has to say about their game:

“Embark on an exhilarating journey into the pixelated Realm of the Mad God! Join, an action-packed, free-to-play MMO bullet hell game. Discover a world with danger, challenges, and hidden treasures as you battle through waves of enemies. Team up with players and conquer dungeons to become a legend!”

Realm Of The Mad God has a very impressive 9/10 rating over on Steam, with tens of thousands of positive reviews since launching back in 2012.

“Simple and fun, and a great time killer,” One reviewer notes. “Feels like a good mix of a simple game, and tiered skill requirements.”

“I have over 6k hours in this game,” another writes. Which, I admit, has genuinely unsettled me a little. But as long as they’re having fun.

Another adds: “I usually hate games like this, but this game is ADDICTING. It’s a really fun time killer and leveling up isn’t hard at all and the bosses are hard but also really fun! This game is a 10/10, there’s honestly nothing wrong with it. If you’re ever bored and want to play a new game.”

There’s A Steam Freebie For Everyone

You just have to dig around a little

If the prospect of a game that could take 6,000 hours of your life scares you too, the good news is, Steam is so chock-full of free games that you’re bound to find one you like.

2026 alone sees the release of a new MMORPG that looks like classic Final Fantasy, for example. There’s another recently released RPG with serious Skyrim vibes.

Basically, if you’re willing to do the research and get the most out of Steam, you’ll find some seriously great free games that don’t cost a penny.
