Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold were recalled in England’s first squad since the World Cup 2026 after both players missed out on the finals.

Chelsea forward Palmer, Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento and Manchester United pair Kobbir Mainoo and Marcus Rashford then withdrew from the squad for the Three Lions’ opening Nations League fixtures, in which they host Spain, visit Croatia and play the Czech Republic home and away.

Manchester City forward Phil Foden remains out of the squad, which also features 18-year-old Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, as well as Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Everton counterpart James Garner, who both received late call-ups following the four withdrawals.

England’s first competitive matches since their win over France in the third-place play-off at the World Cup start with their game against the reigning world champions at Wembley Stadium on September 26.
