F***ing Disgrace – Amad Diallo joins Lisandro Martinez in letting rip after Manchester United’s defeat to Atletico Madrid

Amad Diallo has joined Lisandro Martinez in expressing his anger at Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

Martinez made headlines after criticising the club’s transfer policy following the Champions League setback at the Metropolitano.

And while it was not clear who Diallo’s outburst was directed at it is another sign that things aren’t well at Old Trafford.

Alongside a picture of him in action against Atleti, Diallo wrote on Snapchat: “F***ing disgrace, I have no words.”

Martinez singles out United director of football Wilcox

Coming when it did, it would not be a surprise if Diallo was echoing Martinez’s criticism of the club’s board and director of football Jason Wilcox.

Speaking to Amazon Prime after the game, the Argentina defender said: “We did a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well.

“Atletico have an amazing team and they deserved to win today.

“I expect more [investment]. 100%. I expect more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox].

“I have to be honest, as players we have to do more but it is also important when you make a strong squad to be ready for this kind of night.

“Tonight it is easy to [blame] the coach, easy to say the players but also we have to see other areas.”

United competed well against Atletico despite falling behind inside the opening minute when Diogo Dalot got caught out of position and Alex Baena crossed for Pablo Barrios to slot into the net.

Bryan Mbeumo wasted two excellent chances to equalise but United’s challenge effectively ended when Leny Yoro was dismissed after bringing down Jonathan David with the Canada striker through on goal.

Ademola Lookman made it 2-0 shortly after.

Martinez was wrong, says former United striker Rooney

Martinez’s comments have divided opinion with many United fans feeling the central defender was right to speak out. But the club’s former striker Wayne Rooney felt the outburst came at the wrong time.

Rooney said: “I actually disagree as I thought it was a good performance.

“It’s a difficult one because I always used to feel like I was outspoken as a player, and you want to have your opinion, but I think he’s maybe gone too far; that should be down to the manager, and that should stay internal because the fans want to hear the players speak and they want to see them care.

“He clearly cares and wants the club to invest more money and more players, and if they do that, I think he’ll be one of the players out the door if I’m being honest with his performances.

“His performances haven’t been good enough but I think in some ways he is right, in terms of the club need to invest more at the top end of the pitch and in defence as well.

“I think it looks like that was a bit of an agenda from him because that doesn’t mirror the performance. I thought the performance was better.”
