Fans react as Ishan Kishan hits historic double century in Duleep Trophy 2026 Final

Ishan Kishan produced a stunning display of controlled aggression in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final, converting his overnight century into a monumental double hundred on Day 2. The East Zone captain dominated South Zone‘s bowling attack at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, underlining his ability to thrive in the longer format and putting himself firmly back into the conversation for higher honours.

Ishan Kishan turns century into a match-defining knock

Kishan resumed his innings on 111 not out and wasted little time in building on the strong foundation laid on the opening day. Combining crisp strokeplay with greater patience, the left-hander steadily moved towards the 200-run landmark.

He eventually completed his second First-Class double century from 270 deliveries. His innings featured 24 boundaries and two sixes, highlighting the balance between placement and power that defined his stay at the crease.

The East Zone skipper found an excellent partner in Kumar Kushagra, who provided stability at the opposite end with a century of his own. Their substantial partnership allowed East Zone to pile on the runs and move beyond the 550-run mark, leaving South Zone’s bowlers searching for answers.

A double century filled with milestones

Kishan’s performance also delivered a series of significant landmarks. His achievement was particularly notable because he became the first wicketkeeper-captain in Duleep Trophy history to register a double century. The innings also ended a long wait for East Zone in the competition. Kishan became only the third East Zone batter to score a double hundred in the Duleep Trophy, following in the footsteps of Arun Lal and Saba Karim.

His name also entered an exclusive list of players who have reached the 200-run mark in a Duleep Trophy final. The elite group includes several distinguished Indian batters, among them Cheteshwar Pujara, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

Strong statement ahead of India selection

For Kishan, the timing of the innings could hardly be more significant. After spending a period away from India’s Test setup, the wicketkeeper-batter has returned to red-ball cricket with a performance that showcases both his attacking instincts and his ability to bat for extended periods.

Leading from the front in a major domestic final adds another layer to the achievement. Rather than merely scoring runs, Kishan has demonstrated the temperament required to build a huge innings when his team needed it most.

The knock will inevitably strengthen the case for his return to the national selection picture. While one innings alone cannot guarantee an India recall, a double century in a high-profile final is certainly the kind of performance that can command attention.
