Fans express disappointment as Rohit Sharma falls 8 runs short of back-to-back century in 3rd ODI

India’s third ODI against the West Indies in New Chandigarh produced another memorable batting effort from Rohit Sharma, although the veteran opener narrowly missed out on another century. After his impressive hundred in the previous match, Rohit looked well placed to make it consecutive tons before his innings came to an end for 92. His dismissal left Indian fans disappointed, with the opener falling just eight runs short of another landmark knock.

Rohit Sharma falls just short of another century

Rohit’s innings came to an end during the fourth delivery of the 25th over when Keemo Paul managed to get the better of the Indian batter. Paul bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that skidded off the surface, making it difficult for Rohit to properly control his pull shot. The India opener attempted to work the ball away but failed to find the middle of the bat.

The ball came off the bottom of the bat as it twisted in Rohit’s hands before travelling towards deep mid-wicket. It appeared to be a difficult chance, but Jewel Andrew kept his composure and completed an excellent catch.

Andrew moved to his left to get underneath the ball and held on despite diving to the ground. He also made sure the ball did not spill out when his elbow hit the surface, closing his fingers around it to complete the dismissal. Rohit walked back after scoring 92 runs, narrowly missing what would have been his second successive century.

Fans left frustrated after Rohit’s dismissal

The timing of Rohit’s dismissal made the moment particularly frustrating for his supporters. Having already scored a century in the previous ODI, expectations were high that the experienced opener could produce another three-figure score.
Instead, his innings ended with Rohit just eight runs away from completing back-to-back centuries.

The manner of the dismissal also added to the disappointment. Rohit had been unable to get the required elevation and timing on the pull, allowing Andrew to complete a difficult opportunity at deep mid-wicket. For fans watching Rohit’s innings, the dismissal represented a missed opportunity for another memorable knock, particularly after the batter had already demonstrated his form in the previous game.
