In the 2022 free Steam title How Fish Is Made, you play as a small fish. The game begins as you’re dropped unceremoniously down a chute, ending up on the floor next to a larger fish. Movement consists of flopping around like, well, a fish out of water, and the “gameplay” is limited to flopping down the hallways and rooms and speaking to fellow fish.

Every fish you encounter seems obsessed with convincing you to go either “up” or “down,” based on their own convictions. One character erupts into an unexpected musical number, assuring you that it’s safe to eat twitching raw meat because that’s how you know it’s “fresh.” The entire experience is accompanied by deliciously disturbing sound design in the form of dripping water, squelchy flops, and an incessant and ominous droning.

How Fish Is Made perfectly encapsulates Wrong Organ’s iconic style. Dark and unnervingly organic-looking walls are lit by dim and incessant lights that guide your way ever forward. It’s a strange and unsettling experience that’s worth trying, whether you’re a fan of Mouthwashing or just love weird, experimental horror.
