Cora Lu Tran Should Be A Series Regular

Will Trent is bumping one recurring star’s status to series regular, but another cast member also deserves a promotion. For most of its run, the ABC cop show’s main cast has only consisted of five actors — Ramón Rodríguez as Will, Erika Christensen as Angie, Iantha Richardson as Faith, Sonja Sohn as Amanda, and Jake McLaughlin as Ormewood. However, that’ll change in season 4.

Technically, Gina Rodriguez’s Will Trent character, Marion, was considered a series regular in season 3. Her limited presence on the show didn’t match her title, though. Marion’s last appearance was in episode 13 (out of 18), after all. Hopefully, Will Trent‘s new main cast member will have a stronger presence in season 4, and the aforementioned recurring star will get a promotion soon.

Kevin Daniels Joins Will Trent’s Main Cast In Season 4

Franklin Was Introduced In The Pilot

Kevin Daniels, who has played Detective Franklin Wilks in Will Trent since the very beginning, has been promoted to a series regular for season 4. The actor has appeared on a recurring basis in the police procedural, having starred in 13 episodes. Now, Daniels is advancing to the big leagues in the upcoming season of Will Trent.

Franklin should pop up more often in Will Trent season 4, given his new status as a series regular. As some may recall, Daniels’ character is Angie’s AA sponsor, and has often been there for her when she starts to spiral and considers relapsing. Franklin is also Angie’s colleague at the Atlanta Police Department and sometimes assists the other characters on cases.

Will Trent’s Second Episode Was Nico’s First

Given that Franklin works with the other Will Trent main characters, his promotion makes sense. However, one of the show’s other recurring stars also deserves to become a series regular — Cora Lu Tran. Tran has portrayed Nico since season 1, episode 2, when Angie and Ormewood encountered them on the job. Angie hired Nico to be Betty’s walker, and the rest is history.

Nico has essentially become like family to Will (and Angie). They even live in Will’s house. Nico is simply an important person in the protagonist’s life, and yet Tran isn’t a part of the police procedural’s main cast. The actor should be a series regular, just like Daniels, and have bigger, more important storylines.

Unfortunately, Tran won’t join the main cast of Will Trent in season 4. On the bright side, they are still expected to reprise their role as Nico in the upcoming episodes. Perhaps a promotion is in the cards for Tran, but that won’t be the case in Will Trent season 4.

ABC is holding Will Trent season 4 for midseason, meaning it won’t premiere until early 2026.
