Assassin’s Creed Connor Kenway Sequel Unites Gamers

Released back in 2012 as the fifth major installment in the beloved Ubisoft franchise, Assassin’s Creed III takes players to 18th-century Colonial America and follows the story of two main protagonists: British Templar Haytham Kenway and Ratonhnhaké:ton, better known by his nickname Connor, Haytham’s son who joins the Assassin Order to protect his people and avenge the death of his mother.

Assassin’s Creed III also continued the story of Haytham and Connor’s descendant, Desmond Miles, as he relives the memories of his ancestors in order to try and prevent an apocalypse.

Taking players across 18th-century Boston, New York City, and the American Frontier during this troubling time, Assassin’s Creed III also marked the first installment to focus on the Indigenous people of North America, more specifically, the Mohawk people, with Connor himself being half-Mohawk and his culture playing a large role in his character and story.

Praised for its gameplay, setting, narrative, and open-world, Assassin’s Creed III was met with both critical acclaim and commercial success, and its praise continued following the launch of its sequel, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which followed the story of Haytham’s father and Connor’s grandfather, Edward Kenway.

Now almost 15-years on, Assassin’s Creed III has found itself at the center of a discussion over on r/assassinscreed, with one user posting, “I wish they’d do sequels for certain characters again.” Using Assassin’s Creed Origins‘ Bayek as an example, they continued, “They’re so cautious about not getting stuck on one AC protagonist again that, in my opinion, they are leaving money on the table by not utilizing them. Bayek is arguably still the best AC protagonist since Ezio, so why not capitalize on that and make a sequel similarly to Brotherhood? Not only can you further improve and expand upon the established systems and mechanics, helping you out for future games, but you can also hone in on a singular character, giving your writers more time to cook.”

What followed was a discussion about which beloved Assassin’s Creed protagonists fans would like to see return and, as you can probably imagine, Connor Kenway’s name kept cropping up. “I guess I wouldn’t mind getting Connor back,” one comment read. “Someone needs to do something about Shay. Dude legit needs to be put down and wrapped up.” Another agreed, adding, “The Kenways were probably the last set of characters to get fleshed out over multiple games and are about three generations and their role in the story.

Still think they should’ve done a Connor and Arno crossover. They still could and set it during Napoleon’s conquest of Europe. Conner sent to Europe on “American Assassin” business and gets caught in the middle of a conflict along with Arno.”

With many Assassin’s Creed eras overlapping throughout history, it would make sense for some of our favorite characters to team-up with others, as one fan suggested here. Not only that, but I would also appreciate any opportunity to see Connor return, especially as it has been well over a decade since we last saw him.

However, with Assassin’s Creed Hexe set to be the next mainline entry, with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced expected to bridge the gap between major releases, it seems as though Ubisoft firmly has its sights set elsewhere.
