Alice in Wonderland’s New Movie Already Looks So Much Better Than Disney’s 1951 Classic

A brand-new take on Alice in Wonderland is arriving soon, and it already feels more emotionally powerful than Disney’s 1951 version. Titled Alice in Wonderland -Dive in Wonderland-, this upcoming anime film by P.A. Works drops in Japanese theaters on August 29, 2025. With a melancholic lead and a surreal aesthetic, the trailer teases something far more introspective and timely.

The original Disney adaptation is whimsical and iconic, but this anime reimagining leans into raw emotion and existential doubt, according to the trailer via @alice_movie2025 on X. Where the 1951 classic focused on dreamlike nonsense and bright colors, Dive in Wonderland introduces Rise Azumino, a lost university student searching for purpose. It is shaping up to be Wonderland reimagined not for children, but for young adults grappling with life.
