Lieutenant Spock’s (Ethan Peck) entire Vulcan family can unite in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for the first time. In 1967, Star Trek: The Original Series introduced Ambassador Sarek (Mark Lenard) and his human wife, Amanda Grayson (Jane Wyatt), who are Mr. Spock’s (Leonard Nimoy) parents, as well as the friction between father and son.

Spock’s family was already famously dysfunctional before 1989’s Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, which introduced Sybok (Lawrence Luckinbill). Suddenly, Spock had a half-brother who was never mentioned before. Sybok was the son of Sarek and a Vulcan princess, a relationship that predated the Vulcan Ambassador’s marriage to Amanda.

Sarek and Spock appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which took place a century after Star Trek: The Original Series‘ era, but not in the same episodes. By then, Amanda was long dead, the dying Sarek was remarried, and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) was the conduit for healing the rift between father and son via Vulcan mind-melds.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Can Finally Show Spock’s Entire Vulcan Family Together

In a deleted Instagram post, James Frain, who took over the role of Ambassador Sarek in Star Trek: Discovery, teased his return as Spock’s father. Frain hasn’t played Sarek since Star Trek: Discovery season 2, but his potential appearance in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds could potentially see Spock’s entire family share the screen.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1, episode 7, “The Serene Squall,” shockingly revealed that Sybok was a prisoner on Vulcan, overseen by T’Pring (Gia Sandhu), Spock’s former fiancée. Sybok hasn’t been seen since (and no actor was formally cast in the role), but Spock’s renegade brother is due to finally reappear in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

It’s possible that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds could host a reunion for Spock, Sarek, Sybok, and Amanda Grayson, and that they could all be on the same show at the same time. The only one missing would be Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), but that is unavoidable. Sarek’s adopted daughter jumped to the 32nd century at the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 2, never to return.

Amanda Grayson (Mia Kirshner) has guest-starred in season 2, but Sarek has yet to appear in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This is explained by the rift between father and son, who canonically don’t speak due to Sarek’s rejection of Spock for joining Starfleet. However, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has bent canon before, and uniting Sarek’s entire family could be such an occasion.

Star Trek IV Was The Last Time Spock, Sarek & Amanda Shared The Screen In Canon

Sarek and Amanda Grayson are popular ancillary characters who were used sparingly by Star Trek: The Original Series. After their lone appearance in “Journey to Babel,” Sarek appeared on the big screen in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Amanda Grayson was also seen in Star Trek IV.

However, Sarek and Amanda did not actually share the screen together in any of the Star Trek movies. Or, at least, not the versions played by Mark Lenard and Jane Wyatt. In Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Sybok showed Spock a vision of his birth, with Jonathan Simpson as Sarek and Cynthia Blaise playing Amanda.

Sarek and Amanda do appear together in Star Trek: Discovery seasons 1 and 2, but Sybok is not addressed at all in that series. It was, after all, a big surprise when Sybok popped up in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Now, however, the opportunity is there for Star Trek‘s most famous Vulcan family to have a reunion on Strange New Worlds at some point in season 4 or 5.

Spock’s entire family together in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds would not only cause massive Vulcan dysfunction, but could also answer 37+ year-old questions about Sybok, like how Amanda feels about Sarek’s firstborn son. Vulcan drama aside, Spock’s family sharing the screen could also be an unforgettable Vulcan comedy of errors, especially with the emotionally liberated Sybok involved.
