HBO Max offers a great new spicy series for subscribers to enjoy as the end of the year approaches. Over the past few years, several dark series have been released on streaming. As such, HBO Max has also tapped into that well, with the streamer offering a nice selection of intense TV shows, which includes a recent release.
The Seduction debuted on HBO Max on November 14. The French TV show is an adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons, written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. The series follows Isabelle Dassonville, played by Anamaria Vartolomei (Mickey 17), who finds herself at the center of a dangerous game of manipulation, ambition, and desire. The series also stars Lucas Bravo (Emily in Paris), Diane Kruger (Troy), and Vincent Lacoste (Irma Vep).
According to FlixPatrol, The Seduction is currently HBO Max’s 3rd most-watched TV show worldwide. The only two series beating its viewership numbers are Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, a The Big Bang Theory spinoff, in 2nd place, and IT: Welcome to Derry, which expands the world of the Stephen King franchise and the two IT movies directed by Andy Muschietti, in 1st.
The Seduction is trending in 46 countries, with the HBO Max series ranking in different spots in the Top Ten for those nations. That includes going as high as 2nd place on the streamer in France, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Pakistan. The 6-part historical drama also nabs a top 3 spot — as 3rd — in 15 countries.
Those include Belgium, Portugal, Spain, and many more. When it comes to the series’ performance in the United States, the situation is different. At the moment, The Seduction is not part of HBO Max’s Top Ten TV Shows list in the US. Instead, that list features series like Heated Rivalry, IT: Welcome to Derry, Mad Men, and I Love LA.
That said, The Seduction did find success in the United States just a little while ago. Right before Christmas, on December 23, the HBO Max series entered nationwide charts. The Seduction was the 6th most-watched TV show on HBO Max in the United States on that day. As such, there is a chance that the fiery series might resurge on the streamer.
The Seduction has been met with positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the 6-part thriller series holds a 73% critics’ score. On ScreenRant‘s The Seduction review, Nick Bythrow described the TV-MA show as “offering the illusion of a six-hour movie instead of a miniseries.” All 6 episodes of The Seduction are streaming on HBO Max after the finale, “Versailles,” dropped on December 19.
