I’ve Seen Every Bob’s Burgers Episode, But I Just Noticed This About Tina’s Animation

I’ve seen all 298 episodes of Bob’s Burgers, but it took me until the season 15 finale to notice one strange detail about Tina’s animation. The Bob’s Burgers pilot premiered in 2011, and although the animation changed slightly between seasons one and two, it’s remained consistent ever since. Bob’s Burgers has been renewed through season 19.

Due to some announcements at the San Diego Comic-Con, we know the characters won’t change much as the show goes on. Creator Loren Bouchard announced that Bob’s Burgers will never do a flash-forward episode. Although the Fox show has borrowed from The Simpsons before, this is one trope they’ll never do. Tina, Gene, and Louise will always remain kids.

Although the character design hasn’t changed in almost 300 episodes, it took me a long time to realize something about Tina. Now that I’ve noticed it, I don’t think I can ever unsee it. I’ll be looking for it while watching Bob’s Burgers season 16.

Tina Belcher Doesn’t Have Eyelashes

Bad Tina (S2E8) Bob’s Burger

Tina is one of the only Bob’s Burgers female characters who doesn’t have eyelashes. Typically, this isn’t noticeable because Tina’s glasses block the edges of her eyes. However, in the rare moments when Tina removes her glasses, her lack of eyelashes becomes prominent.

Tina has always looked a little strange without her glasses. However, I always assumed it was because her eyes get smaller when they aren’t magnified by her vision aid. I’ve only now realized it’s also because when she removes her glasses, her eyes visibly lack lashes.

Louise and Linda both have eyelashes, and Linda’s can be seen even through her glasses. While the main male characters of the long-running sitcom lack such prominent features, Tina’s design is interesting due to her gender. That being said, Gayle also lacks eyelashes, so Tina isn’t completely alone.

Of course, Tina is given eyelashes during certain important moments. In the rare episodes where Tina experiments with makeup, she also tries her hand at mascara, which is only possible with eyelashes. However, most of the time, her design features eyes, glasses, and nothing else.

Every Bob’s Burgers Character Has A Unique Design

Bob’s Burgers does an amazing job of designing unique characters while still maintaining a consistent animation style. There aren’t any hard-and-fast rules when it comes to the world of Bob’s Burgers. Some characters wear glasses that magnify their eyes, while other characters’ eyes remain small, giving space between the eye and the glasses.

Now that I’ve noticed this detail about Tina, I’ll mentally point it out every time she removes her glasses. I love how individualized Bob’s Burgers makes each character. The artists put a lot of thought into the show, and it’s definitely appreciated.
