Aston Villa have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka.
Villa have been looking to add to a midfield that has lost the services of Youri Tielemans, who left for Manchester United, with Amadou Onana out of action after rupturing his ACL while playing for Belgium at the World Cup.
Unai Emery’s men have already signed Joao Gomes from Wolves but, after talks over a deal to sign Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich broke down, they have moved to sign his future team-mate.
Goretzka is a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Bayern.
And transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Villa have reached a verbal agreement with the 31-year-old following a conversation between him and Emery.
Goretzka has given the green light to the deal, with a medical planned for the coming week.
The former Schalke midfielder made 48 appearances for Bayern last season, scoring five goals, all of which came in the Bundesliga.
In his time eight seasons at Bayern, Goretzka made 312 appearances, scoring 51 goals. He won seven Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokals and one Champions League title.
Villa start their Premier League season on Sunday when they visit Brighton and Hove Albion.
