Two camps who find themselves scrapping it out at the top of the MLS standings, DC United will welcome Chicago to Audi Field in the early hours of Thursday.

With their sights firmly fixed on punching a play-off ticket in 2026, the former Servette boss should find the mood in his camp at a continued high. Getting May underway with an eye-catching display as they clinched a deserved 2-0 win away at New York City, DC United are also unbeaten in all of their last five consecutive MLS showdowns. Finding a real clinical edge in the final third, it should also be highlighted that Thursday’s hosts have notched 11 goals in just their previous four outings.

As for the visitors, while Chicago might have stormed their way to a sensational 5-0 romp at home against Sporting KC last month, the Fire have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Putting in another concerning performance over the weekend as they eventually slumped to a 3-1 defeat against the New York Red Bulls, Thursday’s guests have lost each of their previous three consecutive appearances across all formats by an aggregate score of 8-4. Likewise, watching their US Open Cup adventure come to a thumping end on April 30th as they fell to a 2-1 loss at the hands of St. Louis, Chicago have shown some real defensive struggles over the past fortnight. Including a frantic 3-2 defeat against Cincinnati earlier in the month, Chicago should be bracing themselves for a tricky test when they travel to Washington in midweek. It’s also worth highlighted, the Eastern Conference strugglers also slumped to a 2-1 loss when they welcomed DC United to Soldier Field for an MLS showdown back on March 15th.
