Fallout 5 Can Wait, Fallout World Has Landed

Despite its massive recent upsurge in popularity, the Fallout franchise is disappointingly going to be on ice for a while yet, with developer Bethesda Entertainment fully focused on finally letting players see what they’ve been working on for The Elder Scrolls VI over the course of all these years.

Fallout 5 is likely underway already, with the developer usually overlapping their projects to try and ensure that there isn’t too much of a gap between the good times (though we’re currently seeing how that effort is going). In the meantime, the older games are still there as a warming and familiar embrace, and a new release from fans has brought that effort forward even further.

As first reported by DSO Gaming, the Fallout Anomaly Team has released Fallout World (which used to be known as Fallout Anomaly), with the modlist aiming to be the quintessential horror experience within the confines of Fallout 4.

The Fallout series has never been scared of including horrifying storylines, characters, and locations that really drive home just how terrible the post-apocalyptic wasteland is as a place to live. Fallout World leans into that even further, while at the same time transforming the game into a genuinely difficult survival experience, where you’ll have to contend with death around every corner.

The Commonwealth is in considerably worse shape this time around (if you can believe such a thing), and you’ll find that most elements of the experience are more challenging than normal. It’s built around the combat overhaul MAIM, with the team behind Fallout World putting forward their own efforts to create a unique balancing act between the player and the game world.

Attrition is much more of a thing in the mod, with players able to bleed out or break bones while taking on dangers, and you’ll have to quickly bandage yourself up before carrying on in your life of misery. You’ll have to be considerably more tactical about how you approach combat, or you’ll quickly find yourself on the wrong end of a hail of bullets.

It’s all available to download entirely for free via the Nexus Mods website, just make sure you steel yourself before heading in for the first time.

Fallout 4 remains the most recent game in the franchise, and it really is a lot better than it gets credit for in 2027. It’s also an amazing breeding ground for the continued work of the modding community, and they should be able to tide us over for the next five years or so, when we will hopefully hear more from Bethesda themselves about what’s going on with the next game.
