Ridley Scott’s latest sci-fi epic is here in the first footage for The Dog Stars.
Teaming Scott with The Revenant scribe Mark L. Smith, the film adapts Peter Heller’s novel of the same name, set in Colorado in the wake of a flu pandemic that left most of humanity dead. The film focuses on a handful of survivors, namely civilian pilot, Hig, who lives in an airplane hangar with his dog and ex-marine, Bangley, who acts as their bodyguard. However, when Hig suddenly gets a mysterious transmission, all amid his and Bangley’s fights against various threats, the pair find their lives about to change.
As part of the studio’s CinemaCon 2026 panel, of which ScreenRant is in attendance, 20th Century Studios has unveiled the first official trailer for The Dog Stars. The new footage begins with Hig, played by Jacob Elordi, walking into a room while holding a puppy and introducing it to his wife, only for a quick cut to see Hig and the dog in the post-apocalypse and traveling through disparate landscapes, while also showcasing some of the action from the film, and his love interest, Margaret Qualley’s Cima.
