Anime is filled with absurdly powerful characters that can alter their stories in unforeseen or shocking ways. These characters’ abilities often extend far beyond conventional limits of speed, strength, and power scaling, with some capable of erasing worlds with a single thought or manipulating reality to their will. For the most overpowered anime characters, the laws of existence mean absolutely nothing in comparison to their seemingly limitless power.

While there are plenty of characters who stand out as some of the most powerful in anime, there are others whose powers are far more unfathomable. At their peak, these characters wield power that is godlike and unmatched by even the most iconic heroes, regardless of physical might. With conventional power scaling thrown out the window, these characters stand above the rest, with power that defies every expectation and universal law of existence.

Sung Jinwoo (Solo Leveling)

At the start of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo is an E-Rank Hunter who has a reputation as the world’s weakest. However, everything changes during a catastrophic incident involving a double dungeon, leaving him on the brink of death before gaining the power to level up through the System. From then on, Jinwoo stands apart from other Hunters and gradually increases his abilities until he becomes the Shadow Monarch.

The System grants Jinwoo multiple unprecedented abilities that grow stronger the more experience he acquires. His power to resurrect fallen enemies into an ever-expanding army is formidable enough on its own, but Jinwoo takes it to the next level with other techniques including teleportation through his shadows, immunity to poisons and disease, agelessness, regeneration, enhanced speed and strength, and much more.

Among his greatest and most overpowered advantages are Ruler’s Authority and Monarch’s Domain, which allow him to use advanced telekinesis to control both objects and living beings and grant his army a 50% stat increase without wasting any mana, respectively. With all his power, Jinwoo becomes nearly untouchable, and by the end of the series, he becomes a god who can freely travel between dimensions and manipulates time and reality after convincing the Rulers to use the Cup of Reincarnation.

Grand Zeno (Dragon Ball Super)

Grand Zeno, also known as the Omni-King, holds the highest position in the divine hierarchy in Dragon Ball Super. While Gods of Destruction hold power great enough to obliterate entire planets, and the Supreme Kais serve as the Gods of Creation, Zeno exists above them all. While his harmless appearance and childlike mannerisms make him seem like an innocent, nonthreatening character, his position as the supreme ruler of the multiverse is absolute, and he quite literally holds the fate of each one in his hands.

Zeno’s defining ability is his power to erase entire realities from existence with seemingly no effort at all. Even the most powerful opponents, such as Merged Zamasu, an immortal being who proved to be too much for even Goku, Vegeta, and Future Trunks combined, don’t stand a chance against Zeno’s ability to erase anything. Despite having no combat abilities or transformations, he’s hailed as the greatest force in the multiverse by the Angels, Gods of Destruction, and the Supreme Kais.

In Dragon Ball Super, it’s revealed that there were originally 18 universes, but across time, Zeno has erased 6 of them entirely, proving that his power and authority are far from being a mere bluff. At one point, Whis, the Angel serving the God of Destruction, Beerus, revealed that Zeno erased these universes due to being in an unpleasant mood, and at another, the Grand Priest stated that Zeno felt 18 universes were too much to manage, making the Omni-King not only immensely powerful, but an incredibly terrifying being with unpredictable whims.

Rimuru Tempest (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)

Originally known as Satoru Mikami, a 37-year-old businessman who met an untimely end protecting his colleague, Rimuru Tempest begins his new life as a reincarnated nameless slime. However, once he befriends a powerful dragon and is granted a name, Rimuru grows to become an ultra-powerful being who creates the Jura-Tempest Federation, a nation for monsters, and eventually goes on to become a True Demon Lord whose influence extends far beyond his own nation.

Rimuru’s abilities grow and evolve throughout the series with him, beginning with skills like Predator, which allow him to absorb, analyze, and mimic objects, powers, and skills, and Great Sage, which grants him auto-calculation and thought-acceleration to bypass magic and optimize combat skills when needed, before developing into vastly more powerful Ultimate Skills.

These Ultimate Skills make Rimuru capable of seemingly unbreakable defense barriers, infinite prison sealing, complete spatial domination, the power of complete destruction, and the power to resurrect the dead and rewrite reality. No single opponent would ever be able to physically overpower him, as he has regeneration, resistance, defenses, absorption skills, along with destructive power and control over space and time at his best. By the end of the series, he becomes a godlike, multidimensional being, making him one of the most overpowered protagonists in anime.

Anos Voldigoad (The Misfit of Demon King Academy)

Anos Voldigoad was once known as the Demon King of Tyranny, a powerful, feared ruler who ultimately sacrificed himself to end centuries of conflict between demons, humans, spirits, and gods. He’s reborn 2,000 years later, finding that magic has decayed, his descendants are weak, and history has rewritten him to be a far more noble figure. When he joins Demon King Academy, he’s labeled as a misfit due to his overwhelming power shadowing even the greatest and most skilled of the modern era.

Anos’s power stands out for his extraordinary strength and magical abilities. Beyond being capable of moving the moon itself and moving faster than the speed of light, he can regenerate or resurrect himself as long as the core concept of himself remains in existence. Not only that, but Anos Voldigoad can resurrect people aside from himself, manipulate time and space, and execute attacks that can destroy or negate nearly anything.

His most powerful weapon, the Venuzdonoa, is even more extreme, as it can destroy the laws and principles of the universe itself. With the ability to render any conventional limitation null and death pretty much out of the equation, Anos stands out as a being who can obliterate practically any opponent without much effort. Unlike other massively overpowered characters who must fight and grow to earn godlike power, Anos is introduced with the power of a god from the very beginning.

Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon)

Usagi Tsukino, better known as Sailor Moon, is first introduced as a normal teenage girl who, before finding that she’s the reincarnated Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom. Tasked with protecting the Earth from evil forces alongside her fellow Sailor Guardians, Sailor Moon grows from an emotional, unsure girl to a powerful, confident leader. By the end of the series, she becomes Eternal Sailor Moon and discovers that her future and final incarnation is Sailor Cosmos.

At the center of Sailor Moon’s most extraordinary abilities is the Silver Crystal, which grants her power over life, healing, purification, restoration, and more. By the end of the series, she draws power from the Lambda Power, a culmination of every Sailor Crystal, granting her the ability to restore entire universes, rewind time, revive countless dead souls and star seeds, and become immortal. In short, as Sailor Cosmos, Usagi becomes a god whose powers are too many to name.

Among her most impressive powers and abilities is the fact that she defies erasure and can destroy the very concept of evil and malice before they can manifest, although she ultimately chooses not to in order to preserve life in the universe, opting to purify and push back against Chaos for eternity instead. Sailor Cosmos essentially has limitless energy and limitless resilience, making her one of the most powerful anime characters to exist and arguably the most powerful to date.
