The Legend of Zelda and Monster Hunter are colliding in a huge new open-world JRPG set to arrive on July 22, and fans of either of those franchises may want to keep the upcoming release on their radar. It’s been a great year for the genre so far, and there is still a lot more to come. Just a few days ago, a popular RPG was released on Steam, and in a matter of hours, it started rocketing up the player charts.
Now, it’s only a matter of days before players are treated with another RPG release that looks extremely promising. The title, which can be added to your wishlist on Steam, is an action-based RPG that will be released on July 22. The title blends elements from various franchises, including Monster Hunter and The Legend of Zelda, but even more titles influence how it looks and plays. Unfortunately, the title’s free demo is no longer available.
The release of DragonSword: Awakening on Steam will happen in a few days, giving interested players access to a huge open world to explore while collecting characters to form different types of teams. In a sense, there are elements of Genshin Impact, though the new title developed and published by Hound13 Inc. is not a gacha. The upcoming game has an anime-style art style, plus action-based tag-team mechanics, allowing you to swap characters during combat.
The new open-world RPG on Steam takes place on Orbis, which is threatened by the awakening of a dragon – thus the game’s title. Initially, you’ll control the hero known as Lute, but he’ll soon be joined by other allies you meet along the way. While the dragon is your main target, you’ll be facing off against several enemies, many of which may feel like the gargantuan creatures seen in the Monster Hunter series.
The goal is to prevent the potential disaster caused by the dragon’s awakening, and with its story being set in a fantasy world, it’s clear that there is some inspiration from Zelda in this RPG. Despite the comparisons made with other series, it’s clear that DragonSword: Awakening has a DNA of its own. This is certainly a promising new release for July.
It’s not the final one, however. A new fantasy RPG is arriving on July 27, too, bringing elements from The Witcher and Fable, in case that appeals more to you. Nevertheless, there are tons of options to pick from. I do recommend giving this new JRPG that mixes The Legend of Zelda and Monster Hunter a chance, though.
