Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is set to bring his experience and winning mentality to the Delhi Capitals coaching setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. The franchise has appointed the former World Cup winner as its assistant and batting coach, marking his first formal coaching role in the IPL.

Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal expressed his excitement over Yuvraj’s arrival, highlighting the former cricketer’s match-winning ability, experience and record of mentoring young talent.

Welcoming Yuvraj to the Delhi Capitals family, Jindal emphasised the value his experience and leadership could bring to the squad.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Yuvi to the Delhi Capitals family. Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad,” Jindal said in the franchise’s announcement.

He also expressed confidence about Yuvraj beginning a new chapter in his cricketing career.

“We wish him all the very best as he takes on his first formal coaching role, and we are excited to begin this new chapter together. His return to the franchise also marks a special moment for everyone associated with the Capitals, and we look forward to seeing him work with Dada and the rest of the staff going forward.”

The appointment brings together two of Indian cricket’s celebrated figures, with former India captain Sourav Ganguly also taking charge as Delhi Capitals’ head coach for IPL 2027.

Yuvraj begins his first formal IPL coaching assignment

Yuvraj’s appointment represents a new phase in a career defined by memorable performances on the international stage. The former left-handed batter played a key role in India’s triumphs at the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011.

His ability to perform under pressure, attack quality bowling and contribute with his left-arm spin made him one of India’s most valuable white-ball cricketers. Yuvraj featured in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is for India, establishing himself as a major figure in the country’s limited-overs success.

Beyond his playing career, he has also mentored several emerging cricketers. His experience working with young batters is expected to be particularly useful as Delhi Capitals look to strengthen their batting unit for the upcoming season.

Yuvraj reunites with Delhi Capitals after 11 years

Yuvraj’s return also revives his association with the franchise after more than a decade. Delhi Daredevils (DD), as the team was then known, signed him for ₹16 crore in the 2015 auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at that time.

He played all 14 matches for the franchise that season. His return in a coaching capacity offers Delhi an opportunity to draw on his understanding of the tournament and his experience of performing at the highest level.

With Ganguly leading the coaching group and Yuvraj taking responsibility as assistant and batting coach, Delhi Capitals are shaping their support staff ahead of IPL 2027.

The franchise will hope the combination of international experience, tactical understanding and player mentorship can help the team mount a stronger title challenge. The Capitals are yet to win an IPL trophy, and the new coaching setup will be tasked with helping the squad take that important step.
