Xbox Game Pass has become an increasingly compelling offering over the last few years, adding a ton of titles to the catalog that are well worth playing if you’re a fan of the genre. In particular, RPG fans have probably been the biggest winners of the lot, with some amazing releases hitting the service, particularly over the last few months.
Most notably in recent times, additions have included Cyberpunk 2077 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, both of which are absolutely some of the best genre entries of the last decade or more. Now, another game has just hit the service that comes from one of the most iconic franchises in history, and it’s available to download and play very soon indeed.
Xbox Game Pass Just Dropped An Iconic RPG
As confirmed on the Xbox Wire, Final Fantasy V will be hitting Xbox Game Pass on May 5, as the last game in a run that sees another nine games added to the catalog over the next couple of weeks. The full list of additions this time around is as follows:
- Little Rocket Lab (April 21)
- Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato (April 21)
- Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors (April 21)
- Kiln (April 23)
- Aphelion (April 28)
- Trepang2 (April 29)
- Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era (April 30)
- Sledding Game (April 30)
- TerraTech Legion (April 30)
- Final Fantasy V (May 5)
This version of Final Fantasy V has been given a new lease of life thanks to completely new graphics and audio as part of a complete 2D pixel remaster. Gameplay has also been improved significantly in this latest release, with a modernized UI, an auto-battler and a bunch of other quality-of-life features that bring it more into line with a 2026 release.
It also gives plenty of hours of fun, with HowLongToBeat.com estimating an average playtime of 52.5 hours for a completionist run on average.
Xbox Game Pass Has Tons Of Final Fantasy Right Now
It’s the same version as the Steam release, and it joins the first four games on Game Pass, with the final part of the equation, Final Fantasy VI, likely to follow in relatively short order. All of the first six games in the iconic RPG series have been given the same remaster treatment, so they usually come as a bit of a package deal these days, and they’re often sold as a bundle when not included with subscriptions.
Game Pass really has become a great place to go if you’re a longtime fan of the Final Fantasy series, and it’s easy to see a world where the more recent games also get added at some point (as they have done previously), given the precedent set by these foundational experiences.
