Xbox Game Pass is far from gaming’s best-kept secret. Years ago, when it was referred to as the “Netflix of games,” it enjoyed a resplendent era of value, but all eras must come to an end. Last year, the service got a pretty significant price hike, and although Microsoft relented a bit recently, it’s still pretty expensive.
That said, in any given month, you can get what you pay for. Tons of first-party games are dropping from Microsoft throughout the year, and recently, Forza Horizon 6 was offered up as a free day-one Xbox Game Pass title. It’s an easy choice to make if you’re planning to play a first-party game and just want to sub for a month.
But you’ll also miss out on any hidden gems that appear on the service, like this recent one that some fans have been calling a 10/10 Soulslike over on Reddit.
The sequel to 2019’s Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant 2, is now on Xbox Game Pass. Developed by Gunfire Games, Remnant 2 follows a Soulslike structure, asking players to roam around sandboxes for loot, leveling, and rewards. Supporting three-player co-op and solo play, there’s a lot to dig into here, making it a perfect Game Pass title.
As one fan writes: “Genuinely great game, I’ve owned it since release and played the first Remnant well before, but just being added to Game Pass is such a win. I need to reinstall and play this more. IMO gameplay is 10/10, it’s a primarily gun-based soulslike and roguelike game. I’m sure plenty of people noticed it (or maybe it was always on and I didn’t realize, but it’s on my recently added tab), but figured I’d make a post about it to generate more recognition for a great game.”
Having played it, I can vouch that it’s a great game to dive into if you go in without any prior knowledge and already enjoy the Soulslike genre. It’s currently enjoying positive reviews on Steam as well, as people are still taking to this 2023 sequel that came out of nowhere.
FYI, the following games will be leaving Xbox Game Pass soon on May 31, so be sure to get to them while you can:
- Against the Storm (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Crypt Custodian (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Metaphor: ReFantazio (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Persona 4 Golden (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Spray Paint Simulator (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Metaphor ReFantazio is the big one you’ll want to tackle on Xbox Game Pass, as it’s a massive JRPG from Studio Zero that will take roughly 100 hours to fully complete. You still have some time.
